Commercial Description:
The TTB won’t let us call the beer Obamagang on the keg label. So it will be known legally as Inauguration Ale 2009, but the tap handles will be more...um...direct. The style lies between a porter and stout, with a bit of Kriek and a touch of chocolate blended in. It will be on draft only, beginning with the inauguration - in limited areas including DC, NYC, Syracuse, Philly, Chicago and Boston. We will donate a percentage of sales to charities in the respective cities where the beer is sold, and we’ve asked our distributors to match our donations and pick the local charities. (Also please note that the beer is not an endorsement of Obama.)

Draft at Tylers in Apex. Thanks for buying Scott! Big surprise this beer is a blend, but it does pour dark, some could even say black. Pretty meh as far as stouts go. Drinkable, but uninspiring. I hope Obama will do better.

On tap at Capone’s. Poured a deeper brown color with red edges and an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, yeast, and some cherries. Tastes of chocolate, roast, cherries, caramel, and fruity. Lacing left on the glass.

Tap at Capones. Pours a deep brown with amber notes and a medium creamy deeper tan head that laced. Aroma of tobacco, milk chocolate, fresh cherries, light Belgian yeast esters. Flavor of dark chocolate, earthy, tobacco, light cherry notes, caramel and overall kinda dry.

pours a drak opaque brown with a creamy light mocha head. good retention and lacing. aroma is very faint but has belgian yeast, fig, and chocolate. flavor is of chocolate and dark fruit with spicy hops and a hint of belgian candy sugar. mouthfeel is slky with nice co2 action on the tongue and a roasty chocolate finish.

Nice brew, but nothing fabulous. Not as fabulous as those inauguration parties i’m sure. Poured a dark reddish black colour with crazy ass carbonation- in fact that’s what dissapointed me the most. Maybe it was just the tap, but way too much for the palate. Tastey however, nice balanced of chocolate of and cherry- like chocolate covered cherries. Rich with dark roasted malts, a certain milky quality and wicked smooth taste all the way through.

@ Tyler’s in Apex. Good aroma, sweet & sour. Chocolate, cherry. Not very strong though. Brownish black color, good head & lacing. Sour sweet flavor, like aroma, with more of the roast coming through, cherry came and went on me. Medium body, lite creamy mouth feel, bitter dry finish. It was good, went down fast. Appearance wise it was perfect, nice head, stayed most of the way with good lace, nice color.

The aroma is malty, cocao, mild cherries. The appearance is dark brown/black, tan head. The flavor is more roasty, but also has a fruity component. It really is as thugh a kriek lambic was mixed in. Some chocolate notes are present as well. Very thin mouthfeel for this style. It finishes with mainly roasted malt on the palate, little hops, some cherry flavor left over. Decent, enjoyable beer, hardly worth the $32.99 they want for a growler of this stuff. I will say this, it is a unique beer.

Draft at Max’s on Broadway in Baltimore. The bartenders and patrons were talking about this beer because it was Inauguration week. Everyone was saying that this was not a good beer, but the curiosity got the best of me. Pours deep brown with an off white head. Smells like feet. This tastes like a blend of a bad porter and cheap kriek. Finishes acetic finish with notes of dusty cobwebs. They were right. This is not good. At least it’s better than the stimulus bill and his cabinet, and that’s not saying much. Overated, just like Obama. Perhaps Obama can redistribute the wealth and reimburse me for this shitty beer
