Commercial Description:
Belgian pale & pilsner malts w/ Styrian Golding for bittering and Saaz for aroma. Ginger predominates the spicing. Fermented in primary with Ommegang's house yeast, followed by secondary with Brettanomyces bruxellensis. Dry-hopped in secondary w/ a blend of hops; Tettnang being the stand-out. The flavor profile is very herbal with an earthy undertone (very fitting for a Belgian-style farmhouse ale). The dry finish and pronounced hop aromas hide the 8% abv very well. Dangerously drinkable for its strength and character.

A cloudy golden yellow with a thick head. Lovely color, especially for style. Smell is floral with some hay and a little fruity sweetness as well. Pears, I think. Flavor is less distinct. There is some herbs and spice. Grapes. Kinda has a white wine thing going on. Bubbly finish. This one is quite pleasant.

Puffy white head and hazy gold color. Perfume like aroma with apricot and herbs. Dry astringent quality with apricot, wood, floral notes and sour apple. Nice lingering finish. Refreshing.

Funk, Funk, and more Funk. I love most Brett infected beers and this one is no exception. More funk than the Hennepin but less than the Jolly Pumpkin family of beers. The aroma is astounding and the punch in the face that the Brett lends is wonderful, if that is your thing. If not, beware!

Wow. Very funky, indeed. Ommegang is easily my favorite American brewery, so I popped the cork on this one with high expectations. I was not disappointed. My bottles came from Batch 2, March 2008. Pours lovely cloudy gold, nice head. Aroma is citrus and yeast. Body has a lot of bite to it, feels wonderful in the mouth. A bit tart. It likes to be cold. I have more, and can’t wait to pop open another.

(From 8-3-08 sampling) Hazy gold in appearance with a small white head, medium carbonation, aroma of yeast, lemon, and cut alfalfa. Hits the mouth with a thin body, spice like feel hits you in the middle, finish is much like a dry wine. Interesting brew that kicked off the sampling.

Batch 1. Took off the metal cap and left the bottle for about thirty seconds. The cork popped out and scared the hell out of the wife. Lesson learned. Pours a light golden color with a nice chunky head. Aroma is citrus and funk. Nice and sweet with a bit of a bite. Have to get a fresh one and compare.

Bottle, batch #2. Cloudy yellow/gold, with a white head. Aroma is yeast, spices, citrus fruit, and bretty funkiness. Flavor is slightly sour and tart, with citrus fruit, yeast, spices, alcohol, and brett. Kind of like Duvel with Brett. Rating #1050.

750 ml bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar: Cloudy pale apricot color with a huge rocky white head. Aroma is citrusy, spicy and floral. The flavor starts out fruity that is quickly over powered by the funky, spicy, yeasty, brett acidity. There are hints of leather and wood and the finish is dry, spicy orange rind. Medium body is spicy with lively carbonation. Kinda Orval like, love it or hate it.
