Pours cloudy yellow with a fluffy white head, some lace, and good retention. Smells sweet and bready with a big, somewhat funky sour smell, a little bit of lemon as well. Tastes slightly sour and funky, bready and malty and yeasty, slightly sweet. Medium bodied with vibrant carbonation. elcaballo (101), Beverly Hills, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2008 Aroma is funk with some yest in there...its tastey with the brett coming out in the flavor for sure...Still its not as funky as a lot of saison’s which makes this beer very drinkable. I am not a huge fan of the style but this was pretty good MI2CA (1266), Noblesville, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 2, 2008 750ml - Aroma is spicy yeast, bread dough, lemon zest, subtle grassy hops and a touch of barnyard funk. Pours transparent gold with lots of bubbles rising to a medium head and great lacing. Flavor is initially doughy yeast followed by a quick zap of spice and brett tartness. Not too funky. Palate starts creamy and finishes sour. A tasty saison cbkschubert (1980), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2008 750 ml bottle (batch 1) from Plaza Liquors - Pours a hazy light golden color with a one finger thick white head. Very little lacing. Aroma is esters and light yeast. Flavor is esters, yeast, and spice. I’m not getting much brett at this point. Medium body. This beer is quite smooth and enjoyable. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 30, 2008 On tap at Tyler’s, Durham. Nice to try this while I have a couple 750s sitting in the cellar. It has indeed aged well and the brett is coming through nicely right now. A deep golden pour, with a thick and somewhat yeasty body/aroma. On the initial taste, the super-dry brett is fairly overpowering and the bitters are pretty intense. But as it warms and opens up, the complexity of the beer emerges along with some fruity characteristics and some earthy hops. Fine, fine stuff. dmac (1463), Toms River, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 27, 2008 750 ml bottle purchased at Ommegang during BCTC. Pours a clear gold with a large frothy bright white head. The funkiness from the Brett in this one just isn’t working for me. The funk in the aroma reminds me of cheap public bathroom soap and has a lemon zest about it. Flavor of lemon pledge with a dry aftertaste. Ommegang swings and it’s a miss. highibus (432), Mill Creek, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 27, 2008 Hazy straw color with thin white head. Aroma of light esters, banana, clove. I know I should have sat on this to let the brett come out, but I couldn’t. Flavor is mild and only slightly funky. Actually a nice sipping beer. The alcohol is well hidden. Decent beer. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 26, 2008 Pours a hazy yellow color with a medium fluffy white head. Aroma is lightly citrus and yeasty. Taste is about the same. It’s missing a lot of the funk and citrus varietals. Seems more like a Belgian Tripel or Strong than a Saison.
