Commercial Description:
Rare Vos is flemmish for "Sly Fox," and the name of one of Brussels’ great cafes. It has a sweetly fruity malt character and yeasty spiciness. A fine dose of yeast permits the beer to mature and mellow in the bottle.

Pours a beautiful pumpkin color, with a thick head with smooth bubbles. Tastes very malty, with some caramel and raisin undertones and a slightly yeast-like finish. Very good, definitly buy again.

Bottle. Poured a clear golden-amber color with rising bubbles and a thick, fluffy off-white head that left nice lacing. Spicy (clove), yeast aroma with light caramel, banana, and some other light fruity notes. Smooth, lightly spicy entry (clove, light ginger) lead into a crisp, yeasty flavor with undertones of citrus, light banana, and some light coriander spice on the finish. Moderate mouthfeel, a bit thin on the finish. Pretty solid for a Belgian.

bottle at Market Cross, Shippensburg: pours an amber color with thick head of slightly large bubbles. looks very beauitiful and picture worthy almost as a good belgian ale should. flavor was mellow, some clove phenols and some apple perhaps and a slightly toasty maltiness. very spritzy and digestable mouthfeel. alright overall, nothing great, but decent.

Out of the Tap at Borough Food and Wine in Manhattan. Poured into weird skinny "Rare Vos" shaker style glass. Thick foamy head, lots of carbonation in a cloudy amber pour that clears quickly. Coriander and yeasty aromas, delicate hops. Characteristic Beligian taste. Pairs excellently with fried and oily foods as the crispness and mild citrus clears the palate wonderfully.

Pours amber. Big yeast aroma. The yeast smells and tastes much more like the strains used in Hefeweizens rather than most belgian beers I’ve had. Still very good. Fruit, malt, wheat-yeast.... goes down very smooth.

Pour is a nice copper bronze with a steady flow of bubble. Fluffy one finger lasting offwhite head. Nose is candy, malts and noble hops, a touch fruity and spicy. Taste is a bit musty and fizzy, candied fruit. Peppery spice as well, somehow with some alcohol leaking through. A bit bready and nice. Pleasant, though a bit overcarbonated.

(0.75 l bottle at Pikkulintu on 2008-05-30) Amber colour and bit hazy (and cloudy after more yeast poured). Fruity and bit sour nose. Slightly fizzy, medium and a bit dry palate. Malts in taste. Some salty liquorice. Hops and yeast. Hoppy Belgian ale taste.
