Growler from Bierkraft. Dark black beer with a thick light tan head. Aroma is quite nice, light cocoa and roasted barley over a nice lean pale malt base. More roasty than many other dry stouts along with a bit of graininess. A light tartness on the back, roasty and even a little spicy. Roasty finish with a bit of lingering tartness. Very nice dry stout... bone dry on the back. The best of this style I’ve had in quite some time.

Poured opaque black with a tan head. The aroma is of roasted malt and burnt marshmallows. There is also a mild tartness. Dry roasted malt flavor with just a touch of coffee. Light bodied with a dry roasted bitter finish.

On tap at The Gate. A real wow aroma. First there’s a nuttiness then chocolate then the roastiness. The beer may seem to be a bit watery but there are a lot of good flavors for the style. The beer is amazingly fresh with bittersweet chocolate and a nice cocoa puff thing going on. Again, some are going to be put off by the thinness of this but for a nice session stout, this can’t be beat.

Growler - dark brown, nearly black, with a fluffy tan head - intensely roasty aroma, with light notes of smoke, some charred wood, light sweetness - very dry flavor, moderate coffee bitterness - very tasty notes of smoke and a lot of woody character - quite dry in the finish, with long lingering bitterness - a little vegetal as it warms, but it’s easy to overlook because it is otherwise so tasty.

Tap at the Blind Tiger. Deep black with a nice firm head. Not on nitro. Quite nice overall, a perfect level of roast and bitterness for the style, really drinkable, but as it warms it becomes overwhelmed with a rather offensive smell of old, rotten steamed broccoli. God damn. Yuck. Should have finished it while it was still cold... probably would have been a 3.9

(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Dark black pour with a puffy tan head. Aroma is rich and roasty with some chocolate, dark malts, and some cream. Flavor is slightly sweet and a little nutty at the beginning but disappears quickly. Some baker’s chocolate near the end with a little ashy finish. Run of the mill.

on tap at the Blind Tiger. Looked black in color (dim lighting) with a medium retaining tan head. Aroma of alot of roast, some molasses, chocolate, and lightly chalky. Taste was pretty roasty for a dry stout, mild to moderate astringency, molasses, chocolate, a touch of minerals. Body was light and easy drinking. Finished with lingering roasty bitterness. Overall a solid beer.
