Crisp, but with a sweetish finish. Herbaceous hops and biscuits, slightly toasty malts. Nicely balanced with a pleasing dry finish. argo0 (6978), Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 29, 2007 (12oz bottle, just Opa Opa IPA, no mention of Buckwheat) Lightly hazed amber body with small off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, floral/orange, some apricot. Taste is medium sweet, grapefruit/orange, some dusky. Light-medium body, light resin. A mellower IPA, an APA in balance and hop intensity if not the alcohol. In fact, the ABV is all that stops this from being a solid session beer. bu11zeye (5621), Frisco, Texas, USA

Poured a deep amber (almost a copper) color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of juicy oranges, floral, caramel, and somewhat fruity. Tastes of grapefruit, pine, and caramel. Has a sugariness to it as well. Lacing left on the glass. Body a tad on the thin side. jcwattsrugger (5567), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

Aroma is citrus hops, medium malt. Taste is citrus hops-some bitter, medium malt, taste follows aroma. OK/mild carbonation.
rerate -12oz bottle -much crisper and with more hop bite than the one I had on tap at the brewpub. Nice. CaptainCougar (5521), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 20, 2007 Bottle, labeled Opa-Opa IPA: transparent orange amber with a spotty-lacing clingy white head. Aroma of fresh grapefruity hops, and sweet toasty pale malt. Starts with a nice slightly caramely maltiness and big crisp resiny hoppy notes toward a balanced bittersweet finish. A nice IPA. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 29, 2007 Draught@Redbones. Quite pleasant, typically American IPA, with some piney floral hop notes in the aroma. Palate is piney, with notes of grapefruit and lychee, with some nice bitterness on the end. Had a pint of this and was very satisfied. A nice drop. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 7, 2007 Updated: Jul 8, 2009My Bottom Line:
Toasted crackers and wooden hops dwell within this lean and clean IPA before a few scattered oranges tag along the levelled grassy bitterness. This is another professional brew from Opa-Opa, but it is outshined by many other quality IPAs available in Massachusetts, imho.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam tops the hazy golden amber.
-The malt structure is a tad crunchy, but rather ordinary.
-Balance is achieved in this simple and drinkable example.
-Carbonation is lively, perhaps masking some of the malts’ flavors.
-This is not aromatic enough for the style.
Bottle and on tap.
