thornecb (1736), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Sep 19, 2009 Pours deep amber into a stein. Off-white head quickly recedes to hug rim. Dark sour caramel aromas. Astringent with dark caramel and toasted biscuit. Nutty finish. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Nov 2, 2007 Updated: Nov 3, 2007Damn, has Opa Opa really been around for 2 years now? That’s crazy. Had this on draught at Redbones on 10/5/07 Thin, light beige head tops a peachy-marigold body. Clear. Little/no lacing, moderate to poor retention. Sweet, crusty/doughy bread in the nose with a surprising amount of orange rind-like acid. Must just be the strong toastiness, but it has a very nice sweet-and-sour appeal that is complemented by a zesty, dry citric-like bitterness. Malts seem to be moderately-well attenuated. Not terribly characterful is the yeast signature, but it’s not unnoticed either. Medium strength and clean, no flaws. Sweet at first and VERY doughy, though not overly bland. Lots of sweet dough and with pinches of orange rind and toastiness biting at the palate. Low carbonation swishes around in the mouth, bursting to reveal little pockets of toffee and peaches. It tapers off fairly quickly on the end, with more robust fruitiness lingering, but the malt richness dies. Slightly watery, drinkable, no alcohol noted, no flaws. Low hop rate and a rather nondescript texture. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 25, 2007 On draft. Pours light amber with a small white head. Aroma of caramel, almonds, and hops. The flavor is sweet caramel malts upfront, nutty, and has some traces of bitterness through out. MaBeer1972 (421), Leominster, Massachusetts, USA Sep 30, 2006 A decent ’toberfest. Mild carbonation, rich and malty, hoppy bite to chase. Medium body. Respectable, but not overly inspiring. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Nov 14, 2005 Amber in color with a small white head. aroma of mild caramel malt and light hops. Clean malty flavor with sublte bitterness balance sweet malt and caramel. Clean flavor.
