rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Apr 18, 2008 Thanks to Swoopjones for sharing! Deep mahogany, ruby/amber where the light does shine through. Nose is vanilla tootsie rolls, alcohol, bourbon. Flavor is vanilla tootsie roll, lots of alcohol, sweet malt, chocolate. Lots of toffee, bitterness & alcohol tingliness in the finish. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Apr 17, 2008 Bottle (22oz - wax sealed). Shared with blankboy, biegaman, IPFreely and rudolf, swoopjones brung the bottle. Deep, nearly opaque ruby-black, with a small head (4-). My first reaction to the aroma was negative - very sharp, cheap strong bourbon, acidic roast, some acrid solvent/bleach character too - but it settled down some to booze, sweet bourbon, standard roast (coffee bean, some chocolate). The taste - sorry, it’s just too sweet, too bourbony - like a scorched Play-Doh liqueur with a hint of maple. Light-bodied, this was pretty slick and boozy on the palate with a long burnt alocholic finish. why do I keep drinking these frickin’ bourbon-aged beers? More to the point, why does everyone keep MAKING them???? swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Apr 17, 2008 Bottle courtesy of sbnw1111 . Drank @ Coles Buffalo NY with Blankboy, HogTownHarry, Rudolf, IPFreely & Biegaman. perhaps I chilled this one down a bit too much. It opened up & got betteras it warmed up. Aromas of vanilla, oak, bourbon & of all things windex. Pours a deep dark brown with medium to fuller body. Tastes of bourbon, vanilla & oak. Pretty good as it warmed up doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Apr 15, 2008 22oz bottle courtesy of Travisd13. The bottle says No. 4 on it, I don’t know if that means anything. Pours very dark brown color with a light brown, creamy, sticky head that leaves some lace. Lots of vanilla on the nose with some wood and bourbon in the background. Tastes of vanilla, bourbon and wood. Awesome! The barrel flavors do overshadow any real "beer" flavors but it’s damn good anyway. Full bodied, not too thick, nice and smooth, almost velvetty carbonation. TheCheeseMan (538), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Apr 5, 2008 Courtesy Beerlando. Very deep burnished mahogany color. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, cocoa, coffee, sweet pie spices, some dark fruits The bourbon is not over the top. The flavor is much more subtle than I expected, with the bourbon, while still present, yielding gracefuly to the roasted notes and allowing the balance to be achieved. I love Thursdays at Redlight. drewbeerme (2224), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 4, 2008 22oz bottle. 9.1% version. big thanks to JCB for this great want list extra! pours brown with small off white head. aroma of vanilla with hints of cherry and bourobn. flavor has buttery bourbon notes, oak, vanilla, finishing with some baker’s chocolate. sort of a fizzy mouth feel. medium body. worth seeking out and the barrel aging is pretty well done, the only issue is the base beer as it comes off more as an imperial brown (oh, the style is coming folks) than porter. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Mar 31, 2008 Garnet color with a fleeting tan head. Nice nose is medium strong and mostly bourbon with roasted malts and vanilla. Smooth and medium bodied. Good taste is sweet bourbon with dark roasted malts, and mild flavors of wood char and vanilla. Not bourbon overkill like some BA brews. Seems i can’t get enough of that charred wood in these barrel aged brews. Oakes (8058), gone rambling, Vietnam Mar 23, 2008 Red-tinged medium brown colour. Light brown sugar nose with hazelnuts and pecan. Very sweet brew with a high vanilla quotient, some background dark malts and a bit of a boozy finish.
