Taverner (826), San Ramon, California, USA Mar 22, 2008 This stuff is nectar. Pours almost wine-like into a snifter. Literally. I mean the pour was reddish but in the glass it was chestnut brown. Mild hops, but strong in tannins from the oak aging. Does not disappoint in any way. Gently bathes your palate in hops while the tannins in the malt pick up and carry you to a heavenly destination. AFTER SOME TIME: Oh my god, this shit is fucking HEAVENLY! This, my friends, is the perfection of brewing. This is beer is peaking, so if you have it drink it now. It his EVERYTHING. Vanilla with a very tannin rich flavor, sweet malt, but not overkill. Ends on deep raisin note. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Mar 22, 2008 Courtesy Beerlando. Version #4. Dark chestnut brown pour, thin tan head. Aromas of vanilla, burnt oak and bourbon, no real overt booziness. Extremely smooth taste considering the aroma, light vanilla and roast, some light tannic notes. A nice balanced bourbon-aged brew. Beerlando (2284), Orlando, Florida, USA Mar 21, 2008 2008, version No. 4. Labeled as Bourbon Barrel Porter. 10.2% ABV. Pours moderately translucent and mahogany in color. A small tan head settles to a swirly film, leaving scattered spots and flares of lacing behind. The aroma shows big notes of caramel, vanilla, chocolate, and soft bourbon. The oak has really imparted a major vanilla component. Flavors were soft and luxurious, with the bourbon not overpowering, but rather enhancing the brew. Chocolate and caramel provide sweetness, but vanilla is again the star of the show. Great use of the barrel here. No way on earth should this be considered a Baltic Porter. Medium bodied and smooth. Incredibly easy drinking for 10.2%. This beer is underrated.....period. BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Mar 16, 2008 From bottle : Pours very dark black, decent carbontation, with a half finger of light brown head that dies fast. Leaves a foamy ring around the edge, and ok lacing. Very strong bourbon nose, with some vanilla, but the bourbon pretty much dominates. Taste is slightly roasted, with bourbon notes, but not as dominate as in the nose. Some alcohol comes through but not overwhelming. Some oak and wood notes toward the end with a little vanilla. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Aftertaste still has a little of that bourbon linguring, but it is nice. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Feb 24, 2008 This is a dark strong bourbon tatseing porter with a creamy head and a smooth finish. The ABV was very present and it had hints of vanilla and fruits with a sweet taste.CHEERS! bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA Feb 14, 2008 Bottle labeled as Bourbon Barrel Porter, No. 2. Rich dark fruit aroma. Sort of vinous/whisky and vanilla notes as well. Pretty black color with a decent tan head. Full bodied with creamy, mild carbonation. Definitely vanilla, some heat, a Jack Daniels kind of impression, smooth roasted/toasted caramel. It’s really something. The finish is actually kind of dry, with a little heat, and still some vanilla. Have no idea what happened to the dark fruits! IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Jan 25, 2008 Bomber from BrewDad! Nose of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and chocolate; murky brown with a medium tan head; flavor is light bourbon, caramel malt, and chocolate! Pretty decent! Finish is very light alcohol, could use a little more body! popdoggy (100), USA Dec 21, 2007 Very yummy. The bourbon is not overdone. It is a nice porter, heavy and smelly. Full mouthfeel and little carbonation. Would drink this one with caution, definately not a session beer.
