The aroma has oak and bourbon as well as some malt. Flavor has sweet malt, light fruit, vanilla, and moderate, but not overwhelming bourbon. It would probably be better with no bourbon at all. daknole (2941), Plantation, Florida, USA

Aroma is full of lots of bourbon and I love it! Some chocolate, prunes and bourbon and an aroma of coconut...oh yeah. Flavor has a great dose of bourbon but it doesn’t hide the dark fruits, vanilla and chocolate. MMMMM! beerinmarch (2800), Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 22, 2006 From the wax dipped bottle. Pours very dark brown, red hue in the light with a light tan head. Very smooth and rich on the palate, soft with a lot of body. The bourbon comes off nice in the taste, mixing against the chocolate and vanilla flavor. Still tastes a bit hot, might need to sit for a bit first. after4ever (2773), Brier, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jun 10, 2007 22. Thanks, Pitonka! You really hooked me up on this one (I hadn’t even known about it until he proposed it as part of a locals trade). Pours opaque ebony with a positively towering sudsy tan head. Gigantic nose, too: definite bourbon and oak, vanilla’s there, cherry, tobacco, a little bit of salty sea air. Moderate attack, as you might expect from the yeast: clean medium-sized body with medium carb. Huge sweet flavors, though. The mid-palate’s a concourse d’elegance: all the notes from the nose return for another go-round, joined by more pronounced chocolates and, unfortunately, a sour metallic intrusion at the end.
The finish is light, lingering, pleasant, woody/oaky, and definitely a credit to the beer. This would’ve scored even higher--probably by quite a bit--without that sour metallic note at the end of the mid-palate. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 20, 2006 This is a pretty light porter, and not that tasty honestly. Dominated by lots of wood, vanilla, and cheap bourbon. Has a bit of heat in the finish from the alcohol. riversideAK (2731), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 5, 2008 Bottle from Belmont Station. Aroma is bourbon, oak, vanilla, and sweet dark malts. The beer pours almost black with a thick tan foamy head and sticky lacing. Initial flavors of roast, chocolate, bourbon, oak, and then some lasting vanilla. The carbonation makes a smooth drinking beer that is almost creamy, but just a tad on the thin side. A touch of alcohol comes through in the finish but for 11% it is very palatable. Better than Full Sail Top Sail IMO. IrishBoy (2713), Bakersfield, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 25, 2008 Bomber from BrewDad! Nose of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and chocolate; murky brown with a medium tan head; flavor is light bourbon, caramel malt, and chocolate! Pretty decent! Finish is very light alcohol, could use a little more body! Beershine (2710), Where Climate Suits My Clothes, Vietnam

Rich bourbon aroma, also filled with coffee, chocolate, coconut, vanilla. Soft, gentle carbonation. Cake crust and mocha cake. Dark chocolate ganache, yum! Roasted coffee. Nice character even if not outstanding.
