Taverner (826), San Ramon, California, USA Mar 22, 2008 This stuff is nectar. Pours almost wine-like into a snifter. Literally. I mean the pour was reddish but in the glass it was chestnut brown. Mild hops, but strong in tannins from the oak aging. Does not disappoint in any way. Gently bathes your palate in hops while the tannins in the malt pick up and carry you to a heavenly destination. AFTER SOME TIME: Oh my god, this shit is fucking HEAVENLY! This, my friends, is the perfection of brewing. This is beer is peaking, so if you have it drink it now. It his EVERYTHING. Vanilla with a very tannin rich flavor, sweet malt, but not overkill. Ends on deep raisin note. NickVega (72), Eugene, Oregon, USA Sep 27, 2007 Wowza! Drink this one last - it will not disappoint. Rich delicious punch in the face. popdoggy (100), USA Dec 21, 2007 Very yummy. The bourbon is not overdone. It is a nice porter, heavy and smelly. Full mouthfeel and little carbonation. Would drink this one with caution, definately not a session beer. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Apr 15, 2008 22oz bottle courtesy of Travisd13. The bottle says No. 4 on it, I don’t know if that means anything. Pours very dark brown color with a light brown, creamy, sticky head that leaves some lace. Lots of vanilla on the nose with some wood and bourbon in the background. Tastes of vanilla, bourbon and wood. Awesome! The barrel flavors do overshadow any real "beer" flavors but it’s damn good anyway. Full bodied, not too thick, nice and smooth, almost velvetty carbonation. buzzoven (333), Japan Jan 3, 2009 Cherry, chocolate, smoked flavours, wine, bourbon--lots of bourbon, tobacco, figs, grapes,
plums, resinoius, sticky, gummy, sweet, slightly tart, bitter, boozy finish hayduke (1620), Eureka, California, USA Sep 16, 2009 Updated: Sep 18, 2009From a big wax top bottle this not inexpensive ($11.49) bottle (No5) purchased from the Market of Choice in Eugene, Oregon poured a very dark black color with a very fat and foamy dark tan head and very thick and sticky lacing rings that coated my Chimay glass like glue. The nose is a blast of bourbon, more so than many Bourbon Barrel aged brews that makes it seem to contain more alcohol than it does. Once you get past the bourbon odor, you can detect aromas of roasted malts with ripe figs and raisins, and some some vanilla. The mouthfeel is very rich and creamy but smoothes out in the mouth. The flavor is more balanced than the nose, and is roasted malts and bourbon, and again seems more alcoholic that it is. Overall a remarkable good porter and worth every penny I paid. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 17, 2007 A perennial favorite of mine. From a 22-oz. waxed bottle. Poured a brown-amber body with a quickly dissipating off-white head. Nose of big boubon. Also caught notes of vanilla, chocolate, and some fruit. Creamy mouth feel. Boozy all the way through. A special beer that ages quite well and mellows over time. A+ boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 2, 2009 Updated: Aug 1, 2009Bottle... Poured deep brown with a khaki head. Aroma of vanilla and grains, not so much of dominant bourbon on the nose. A little alcohol up front with smooth, roasted malts in the middle. The bourbon lent to a sweet, creamy palate and dark chocolates in the finish.
