Nice nose is medium strong and mostly bourbon with roasted malts and vanilla. Smooth and medium bodied. Good taste is sweet bourbon with dark roasted malts, and mild flavors of wood char and vanilla. Not bourbon overkill like some BA brews. Seems i can’t get enough of that charred wood in these barrel aged brews. after4ever (2771), Brier, Washington, USA

You really hooked me up on this one (I hadn’t even known about it until he proposed it as part of a locals trade). Pours opaque ebony with a positively towering sudsy tan head. Gigantic nose, too: definite bourbon and oak, vanilla’s there, cherry, tobacco, a little bit of salty sea air. Moderate attack, as you might expect from the yeast: clean medium-sized body with medium carb. Huge sweet flavors, though. The mid-palate’s a concourse d’elegance: all the notes from the nose return for another go-round, joined by more pronounced chocolates and, unfortunately, a sour metallic intrusion at the end.
The finish is light, lingering, pleasant, woody/oaky, and definitely a credit to the beer. This would’ve scored even higher--probably by quite a bit--without that sour metallic note at the end of the mid-palate. greenhorn1 (460), Mission Viejo, California, USA

This is typically not my style of beer, but I was impressed. It shows as a nice mahogany with a deep red tint, with nice lacing. One sniff and you can smell the bourbon and vanilla. It goes down surprising smooth and warms the gut. JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 24, 2008 22oz bottle - pretty sure its an 07. Darker brown color with a light head. Aroma is quite nice and woody with bourbon/vanilla undertones and a bit of chocolate. Flavor is dominated by a smooth bourbon/wood/vanilla mix that is just pure Bourbon barrel. I’ve certainly had better BA beers, but none that captured the "essence" of the barrel so well. Tasty, interesting - glad I have a few more. Skyview (4055), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA

Pours a semi-cloudy dark brown brew with a fast dissolving off-whtie head that disappears clean. Aroma of aged dark oak, bourbon with a touch of caramel malt, vanilla and some chocolate. Taste is smooth, thick and creamy, medlum bodied with some light carbonation. Flavors is mostly bourbon dark fruits and some chocolate malt. Finish is semi-sweet, with a caramel vanilla aftertaste. Nice alcohol warmth an added feature. Beerlando (2334), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 21, 2008 2008, version No. 4. Labeled as Bourbon Barrel Porter. 10.2% ABV. Pours moderately translucent and mahogany in color. A small tan head settles to a swirly film, leaving scattered spots and flares of lacing behind. The aroma shows big notes of caramel, vanilla, chocolate, and soft bourbon. The oak has really imparted a major vanilla component. Flavors were soft and luxurious, with the bourbon not overpowering, but rather enhancing the brew. Chocolate and caramel provide sweetness, but vanilla is again the star of the show. Great use of the barrel here. No way on earth should this be considered a Baltic Porter. Medium bodied and smooth. Incredibly easy drinking for 10.2%. This beer is underrated.....period. Super sweet bourbon and chocolate on the nose with some raisen and ripe fruit. Dense chocolate and ripe fruits as with a light floral hoppiness. Nice but I am pretty sick of bourbon beers.
