Commercial Description:
Oregon Trail Bourbon Porter is a beer as big as the West. Masterfully brewed in the true pioneer spirit. This robust porter is aged in Kentucky oak bourbon barrels. The result is a deep mahogany elixir, rich with oaky smoothness, bold bourbonesque aroma, with hints of fruit and vanilla. Good at either end of the trail.

Bomber from BrewDad! Nose of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and chocolate; murky brown with a medium tan head; flavor is light bourbon, caramel malt, and chocolate! Pretty decent! Finish is very light alcohol, could use a little more body!

[ Courtesy of Maria ]. Clear dark brown color with a average to large, frothy - creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, milk chocolate, oak, vanilla, bourbon, light alcoholic. Flavor is light heavy sweet and light bitter with a long duration. 22 oz. bottle, No. 4 - pours a deep, ruby brown, clear along the edges and a light tan head; bourbon smacks you right away and slightly overpowers any other aromas; body is thin, but lots of roasty character; some richness to it, but think the porter is a little overwhelmed in this one; have a No. 2 bottle as well, so will have to see how that differs

Bottle: This is batch 3, I have had all 3 batches. This one is the strongest of the 3 at 11% and sightly sweeter. The nose is a lot of bourbon spiciness with maltyness barely coming through. Pours black with red highlights if you hold it up to a light. 1 finger frothy tan head. Flavor is a ton of bourbon and spiciness. Almost seems extra spicy. Rich maltyness comes through underneath but is secondary. No noticeable hop presence. The body is medium but goes down pretty light. After a few drinks i can feel a big alcohol warmth in the back of my throat. This beer is really nice if you love Bourbon, spice and alcohol.

Pours deep brown with a lasting tight bubbled medium tan head. Awesome oak bourbon nose. The flavor is a bit off, but still oak and coconut mostly. A touch of astringency. A bit thin in the body. Bottle says to drink before 12/24/08, so I think I should have not sat on this one.

Snifter. Pours a dark walnut color. with a small offwhite head. Nose reminds me only of putting whiskey in nestle quik. Chocolate, bourbon, burnt, little toast in the nose. Buttery bourbon flavor with some weaker porter tones, some coffee, some dark chocolate, dry. Great beer, very boozy warm palate.

From bottle : Pours very dark black, decent carbontation, with a half finger of light brown head that dies fast. Leaves a foamy ring around the edge, and ok lacing. Very strong bourbon nose, with some vanilla, but the bourbon pretty much dominates. Taste is slightly roasted, with bourbon notes, but not as dominate as in the nose. Some alcohol comes through but not overwhelming. Some oak and wood notes toward the end with a little vanilla. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Aftertaste still has a little of that bourbon linguring, but it is nice.

Bottle - Thanks BuckeyeBoy! - Pours slightly thicker and dk browm with a fluffy tan head...aroma is bourbon and wood predominantly, some sticky malt in there as well, dark fruit...flavour is pretty nicely balanced, sweet and warming, roasty grains, oak phenols, light vanilla and bourbon...good mouthfeel, it got a bit acidic for me on the finish, but that might have been the alcohol, overall very tasty!
