Commercial Description:
Oregon Trail Bourbon Porter is a beer as big as the West. Masterfully brewed in the true pioneer spirit. This robust porter is aged in Kentucky oak bourbon barrels. The result is a deep mahogany elixir, rich with oaky smoothness, bold bourbonesque aroma, with hints of fruit and vanilla. Good at either end of the trail.

Bomber. YUM! Dark, dark brown pour wtih a small very light tan head. Aroma is full of lots of bourbon and I love it! Some chocolate, prunes and bourbon and an aroma of coconut...oh yeah. Flavor has a great dose of bourbon but it doesn’t hide the dark fruits, vanilla and chocolate. MMMMM!

Thanks to batkins for this brew this pours a murky brown color with a small head. The aroma is bourbon, vanilla, oak and some more bourbon. The flavor has lots of, surprise, bourbon and vanilla. it’s surprisingly light bodied with a little bite on the finish. Pretty tasty

Poured a clear dark chestnut color. Moderate strong bourbon notes in the aroma. Big vanilla and a fair amount of sweetness. The flavor was a mix of bourbon and sweet roasted malt. Nice warming sensation. Lively carbonation.

10th Annual SD Strong Ale Fest: Didn’t like it as much here. Found it to be on the thin side.

Bottle: Pours a black color, light head and lacing. The nose is fairly strong with bourbon notes and a bit of chocolate and alcohol. Light hops and sweet caramel in the finish, no astringency and a balanced creamy/tangy end. A bit much bourbon in the tail as it draws out. Finishes clean, roasty, a bit of coffee. Decent porter! Thanks to my friend Brett for this one.

Bottle, from trade with...Hmmm I gotta find my notes...Good aroma. Bourbon, duh, vanilla, malibu rum, oak, caramel. Clean orangy dark brown color, nice head that faded to a cover, ok lace. Bitter flavor, Like aroma. Bourbon dominates. I get some roasty notes, chocolate if I try. I don’t get the fruity notes they mention on the label. Medium bdy, kind of watery, but lite creamy oily overall, bitter finish that fades as you finish with a, bourbon sweetness. Pretty much wht I expected from the name. Maybe it was just my mood at the time, but I wonder why I pursue these sometimes.

Red Wax (batch #2 I believe) bottle from Steve and served in my Stone IRS snifter: Pours a deep brown with ruddy highlights, small fading ring of foam and minimal lace. The nose detects berry esters, tobacco, leather, old oak, hint of rye mash whisky, and some butternut bread. The flavor profile starts with a boozy forefront before the palate adjusts and allows the softer sweeter malts to come out to play. I found a smoky rye bread and chocolate malt action in the midesection before leading off to a woody and nutty finish. Undertones of acidic fruits and coffee found in and about at times. The mouth feel is thin but I have noticed that more often than not in barrel aged beers lately, aggressive bite and moderate alcohol warming. Overall I liked the fruity character which worked with a barrel flavors but it could have stood a touch more chewy malts, worth trying again.

A nice dark beer with some chocolate and bourbon tones on the nose.Flavor was bourbon, wood, chocolate and a hint of a nice earthy cigar.Finish left the chocolate and sweetness lingering a bit.
