Commercial Description:
First brewed for the British troops in the 1800's, extra hops and alcohol helped preserve the beer for the long voyage around the Cape of Good Hope. Oregon Trail IPA faithfully adheres to this old brewing tradition. This malty flavored, copperhued India Pale Ale is balanced with generous amounts of Nugget and Centennial hops. A hop-lovers delight.

Taster - Oregon Trail Brewing - Corvallis, OR
Aroma – Nice hops aroma with slight malt background in the aroma.
Appearance – Amber in color, Thin head and clear.
Flavor – Strong hops flavor the malts held up there end and added to the flavor as well.
Palate – Nice Mouthfeel, good texture with a dry IPA finish.
Overall – A very nice PAC NW IPA. This beer had the hops it better in Hops country. Liked this as it was not super IPA strength which some brewers do and try to kill your taste buds with hops.

Pours a fiery golden copper color. Clear. Lazy carbonation floats to the surface. Off-white creamy head forms easily and leaves a wet sloppy doily of lace behind. Pleasant aromas of juicy grapefruity citrus flesh along with the bitter rind. Deep inhalations reward you with sweet caramel square notes. An occasional flare-up of alcohol is noted. Maltiness is not shy here at the beginning. A blast of molten caramel and the warm homey feel of bread dough. Citrus hops kick in to give their two cents. Bitter (almost too bitter) rind tones appear. The initial malty creaminess that was welcomed is soon beaten about the face and head by a trifle unbalanced nature. (I shudder to think what this would be like if the initial maltiness was weaker.) Too bitter. Too rough. Needed a little bit of caressing to meld the characteristics. As it stands now it’s just too disjointed. I’ll try next month it will prob smooth out.

This has got very generous portions of hops, and if you love hops like I do, then this is a beer for you. The structure from the malt backs up the hops perfectly. This is not over the top, very well balanced and incredibly yummy!

Draft at the brewery. What I would called an American-British hybrid IPA with a homebrew flavor. Nutty and malty while still a little overhopped - and the hops are more of a bread crust and viney husk flavor than a sweeter citrus flavor. Full to medium bodied with a slightly rough texture - and like I said, a bit of a homebrew funk. They use the same yeast in every brew, so perhaps some experimentation with other strains for the IPA would resolve the problems... although to be honest the problems are very small... this was overall a very tasty IPA.

Amber with a thin creamy head and some lace. Floral and bitter hop aromas with oranges and pine. Some biscuits show up. The flavors contain lots of floral hops with some bitter orange peel flavors. Caramel with some spice and alcohol. Flowers. Tangy palate with a floral bite at the end.

Sampled draught at Old World Deli/Oregon Trail Brewing, Corvallis
Auburn color, nice head & lacing. Nose of floral citrus tones, creamy but resinously bitter. The flavor is bitter & dry, fairly average IPA for the region which means it’s above par as IPAs come, meh.
