Commercial Description:
For this JDW beer festival, we welcome our first international lady brewer, Tonya Cornett, who has travelled from the USA to brew this special beer for us at Marston’s Brewery, Burton upon Trent. This amber-coloured beer has an enticing creamy head and a sweet and fruity aroma, with hints of citrus. The flavour is light and spicy, with an initial crisp, bitterness balanced by a kiss of malt sweetness which leads to a long, dry and hoppy finish.

[Cask at Wetherspoons] Very dark amber colour with a small head which dissipates quickly. The aroma is primarily caramel but does have a few citrus notes. Body is rather heavy and sweet, more caramel on the palate with some citrus and grapefruit notes in the finish. A lot more hops would have added a bit of complexity to the aroma and gone some way to balancing out the caramel sweetness. As it stands, this is not a bad beer but rather one-dimensional and a little on the sweet side.

A Mes rate. Cask handpull at the New Crown.
Rich copper colour with a thin off white head. Plenty of caramel, a little biscuity malt, very cardboardy and thin. Late bitterness but it’s not enough to save it.

Handpulled cask at JDW Stanmore. Brown with an off white head. Predominately malty with few of the promissed US hops in attendance. Dissopointing to say the least/.

Cask (gravity) @ J.D Wetherspoon - Air side, London - Standsted Airport.
[ As Bend Brewing Wild Blue Yonder ]. Clear medium to dark brown color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, overriped berry - fruity, moderate hoppy, old citrus - orange - tobaco, old wood. Flavor is moderate sweet, light acidic and moderate overriped fruity tobaco bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. [20090420]

Cask, Highcross, Leicester. Chestnut brown with an off-white head. Aromas are chocolate and light earthy roast malts. Peppery with pithy grapefruit. Flavours are very smooth chocolate, initially. Replaced by lots of sweet, peppery grapefruit. Dry with tea notes. Some sweet toffee. Bitter and dry on the finish. Addictive.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Amber with white head. Thick sweetish malty body with some caramalistion, really fairly dull, and yes it has only just come on in my local spoons along with a few of the other guest brewers beers, does this give us an idea of how it tastes fresh, I don’t think so. Some fruitiness, flat, not great.

[Cask at Monk’s Retreat, Reading] Dark amber, loose white head. Creamy, vanilla & caramel up front. Some mild citric bitterness in finish. Overall easy to drink, but disappointingly bland. the festival guide implied that the brewer felt she had to tone down the bitterness for the British market. Shame she toned down the flavour too.

Cask in the new crown. Alround rating: I was quite excited about this as there seemed to be quite a bit of talk about american hops in it. But im guessing they forgot to put them in. Brown ale malts, caramel, grassy floral hops. Wheres the cascade!!!!!
