Very good long lasting sticky lacing. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee, some chocolate. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Fresh smooth flavour of roasted malts, chocolate, roasty coffee, slight liquorice. Bitter roastish finish. A tasty brew indeed! FROTHINGSLOSH (1984), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jan 30, 2007 Updated: Aug 27, 2007Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a very large dark brown head. The aroma was strongly malty, toasty and roasty with a nice floral hop element. The mouthfeel was a bit thin. The flavor was bitter and roasty, with a lightly smoky undertone and a floral hop element. The finish was bitter and a bit smoky. Not my style of stout. dmradus (225), State College, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 27, 2007 Handpump pint at the Maltings, York. Not sure of the difference between this and the cask version here, since they both say cask in their description? So I’ll keep it here. Pours pitch black with a lasting, creamy and dense tan head that laces considerably. Nose is indistinct, slight roasted malt and a considerable chocolate presence. Taste is really superb: strongly roasted and coffee upfront, fades to a heavily bitter finish that lasts and coats. Echoing the sentiments of some raters before me: this makes for an exceptional session stout and as such gets a few extra bumps from me. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 18, 2007 Pint bottle from Degarth! - Thanks Joe! - Pours black with a big foamy tan head that stays pretty well and laces in patterns. Aromas of coffee, roasted malts, and some cocoa. Flavor has lots of roasty notes, a little coffee, and some light chocolate.. Thin bodied and less robust than other stouts but this is only 4% alcohol. Not bad though I think it would make a pretty nice session stout... stison42 (318), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 1/5 | 10/20 | Jan 1, 2007 Black. Roasted malty taste which stays on the tastebuds well. Body is too weak though, so it is only ok. bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA

Roasty, slightly astringent flavor with some background chocolate and bitterness. Thinner body (but what to expect at 4%). LIngering dark roasty malts and chocolate. beeranarchist (185), Aalborg, Denmark
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 8, 2006 Bottle. Black as hell, roasty aroma with lots chocolate and some diacetyl (butter). Flavour and body is quite disappointing; a taste of liqourice at first, which dissappaers immediately, very light body. MPA (487), Nørrebro(formerly Aalborg), Denmark
