Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 23, 2006 Toasted, nutty, cream and coffee aroma. Good bottle, pitch black beer. Big Khaki eternal head. Mostly smooth, a bit of coffee acidity, mostly dry. Medium bodied. Finish is quick, given the roastiness of the beer. Overall, this wasn’tt as complex as I would have liked, but very good and smooth. Tmoney99 (4652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jun 17, 2006 Bottle. Black color with a large light brown head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Moderate roasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Moderate roasted balanced flavor with a smooth bitter sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew. notalush (2626), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 2, 2006 Dark ruby with foamy head of large bubbles - roasty, smokey aroma, with hints of wood, cocoa, some light mineral character - very dry and chalky - almost too dry - it feels like it’s sucking the moisture right out of my tongue - rather thin flavor - some cocoa and anise come through - perhaps if it weren’t filtered it would be more flavorful, but this really doesn’t do much for me. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA Jun 2, 2006 Nice-looking stout, with a lush, light tan head with some big bubbles around the sides of the glass AND a very, very dark reddish brown body. Ashy, cocoa, roasted malt aroma. The flavor is similar except a heavy dose of smokiness is evident here as well. A pretty weak stout overall, not much uniqueness in general. I imagine, with its low alcohol content, that this is more of a beer to enjoy with a heavy dinner, rather than an after-dinner enjoyment brew. This is just OK for me. Furseth (1328), Kungälv, Sweden May 28, 2006 Bottle 5/1-06. Thanks to Jonas Ahnfelt.
Dark red/brown colur, with a nice brown foam. Aroma of dark chocolate and dry bitterness. Balanced sweetnes and bitternes in the end . Medium body, and and a little bit to short finish is my upinion. highlandlad (1258), Sydney, Australia May 10, 2006 There’s nothing that Orc Sealculler and I enjoy more than a Dragonhead Stout when we return to the Orkney islands after a tough week of looting and pillaging the Scottish mainland. Being a Viking is a thirsty business. First thing we do as soon as we’ve parked the longboat and raped the virgins is visit the taverna for a few flagons of this stuff. Then we torch the taverna and slaughter the landlord and all his customers. Yes, it’s good to be a Viking.
This fine stout is as black as Thorfin Skullplitter’s heart and pours with a head as wild and frothy as the Pentland Firth. It has an intense aroma of something that might be dark chocolate, although I wouldn’t know because we haven’t discovered chocolate yet. It’s sweet, with a minty note and a slightly sour milky character. The palate is full and creamy for a 4% abv stout. And it’s richly flavoured with roast barley (personally I prefer roast boar, but each to their own). It’s as smooth as a virgin’s skin and as dry in the finish as forest fire. If the brewery continues to produce beer of this quality we might have to stop burning it down. (500ml bottle shared with Bridge; bb Aug 2005; many thanks to my ould fella for carrying this one all the way to Australia.) themadmumis (344), Westminster, Maryland, USA Apr 30, 2006 Amazingly smooth. Smokiness and roasted tastes soothe the palate. The best overall stout I’ve experienced with a low alcohol content to boot--- the more to enjoy. Only gets better with the quantity. Highly recommended for the ’go-to’ stout! jake65 (1657), Williston, North Dakota, USA Mar 31, 2006 Poured an incredibly dark brown / black with a nice head that dissapated somewhat quickly. Tastes of smokiness and malts with a hint of coffee tones. My overall feeling is that this brew was too thin, almost watered down. It got my hopes up at first, but the taste never really delivered.
