Peaty smoke, some sweetness, Coffee, some licorice.
Easy drinking, a bit too light and thin. Could we ask for an imperial version of this? But it is a lovely session beer, and I’d really like to try a cask version. MBison (548), Southern Highlands, Australia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 19, 2009 Bottle (500ml). Poured black with a good sized, thick, foamy, tanned head which lasted extremely well. A rich chocolate aroma with toasted malts, cappuccino, leather and plums. Flavor was a mild sour/lactic bitterness with bitter/dark chocolate, black coffee, almond loaf, light woody notes, hints of prune juice and an earthy finish. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation, a dry mouthfeel, medium texture and a good length finish. A superb session stout - drinks well above its alcohol content. larsga (2959), Oslo, Norway
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 18, 2009 Huge dark brown lasting head. Apparently opaque black body. Big roasty cocoa aroma with sugary licorice and hop notes. Dry burnt chocolatey coffee taste with metallic toffee notes. Some faint fruitiness, too. Thin body. Mild, smoothish mouthfeel. Dry pine needle and burnt coffee aftertaste. Burnt coffee taste lingers for a long time. Too thin and dry, but otherwise great. With more body this would be an awesome beer. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 13, 2009 Bottle; poured a very dark brown with a small to medium tannish head. Aroma was actually quite strong and good for abv. Some definite grape/wine components, with roasted malt, caramel, meat and earth. Dry and thin on the palate. The aftertaste was not very appealing as it was a bit ashy and chalky. Flavor was really a let down from the aroma. Some caramel, alot of roasted malt, and something akin to butter. Not a great beer, but a great aroma. gunnar (527), Sandnes, Norway
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 12, 2009 0,5 l bottle. Almost pitch black in the glass, with a moderate tan head. Powerful smoked and roasted aroma, almost like smoked bacon. Delicate roasted taste which turns slightly bitter, notes of dark chocolate. Dispite its watery mouthfeel, a decent stout mgumby10 (1850), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 10, 2009 Pours a dark brown/black, with a small light tan head. Smells of mild roast and bitter sweet chocolate cream, with a touch of hops. The flavor was mostly roasty and woodsy, with some of those hops showing up in th finish. Had hints o cocoa and coffee in there as well. Medium bodied, and creamy on the palate. Not an awesome stout, but drinkable. Sigmund (2275), Hafrsfjord, Norway
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 4, 2009 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.0%. Black colour, big and creamy brown head. Pleasant aroma of dark roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate, hints of smoke and tar. The flavour has roasted malts, mild coffee and dark bitter chocolate, some fruit in the finish, with a roasty bitterness and moderate hops in the aftertaste. Good beer, but would probably profit from a higher ABV. gnoff (3568), Göteborg, Sweden
