Bottle; poured a very dark brown with a small to medium tannish head. Aroma was actually quite strong and good for abv. Some definite grape/wine components, with roasted malt, caramel, meat and earth. Dry and thin on the palate. The aftertaste was not very appealing as it was a bit ashy and chalky. Flavor was really a let down from the aroma. Some caramel, alot of roasted malt, and something akin to butter. Not a great beer, but a great aroma.

Well, definiitelly better than the Cask one, but I guess something was wrong with the equipment. This was a very good stout, although a little soft sometimes. Smoked, chocolate features on it. Good head, but tiring after a while.

6/29/2007: Dragonhead Stout is very dark brown (clear) with a frothy beige head. The aroma is really good and is just like creamy milk chocolate. There is also a touch of roasted malt and dry cocoa powder. The flavor is quite dry (not really what I was expecting), but good nonetheless. Flavors of cocoa powder, roasted malt, and dark, bitter chocolate are present. The flavor is good overall, but a couple more percentage points of alcohol would have been welcomed and appreciated though. The medium to medium-full body is very smooth and creamy on the palate. Dragonhead Stout is a very interesting and solid beer. It would probably be more at home in the Dry Stout style category. Regardless, this is a beer that I will definitely drink again in the future.

500 ml bottle (sample) at the River’s Bend Wine & Spirits weekly beer tasting. Thanks Matt (mball581)!

Bottle. Black color with a brown laced head that grips the glass on the way down. A deep roasted bean aroma with plenty of bitter chocolate. The flavor mirrors the aroma with a robust dry roasted malt blast.

deep. dark color, with crimson highlights, beneath a creamy cocoa-tan head. Aroma is gentle, yet still roasty, emitting warm notes of chocolate and coffee, rich, bittersweet, with espresso tinges, and fairly uplifting, I like it! Warm, rich, smooth satisfying mouthfeel. Just drips over the palate, lolls around the tongue, very silky smooth. Not as thick or full as some stouts, but that’s okay, sometimes. Thoroughly pleasing, with an additional toffeeish sweetness, that really brings a smile. I can’t help but like this beer, and I’d advise you to try it, at least. Doesn’t rock any worlds, but damned if it doesn’t taste good, and that’s all I’m caring about right about now.

Black body with a good size, lasting, tan head. Coffee and roasted notes on the aroma. Similar in the taste, light enough in body and alcohol to drink plenty of these.

Medium black, fading brown head. Aroma was of yummy milk chocolate. Bit of a thinner body than expecting based on aroma, chocolate, a hint of something tangy, and that was about it. So-so.

Dark and dry with a lot more body than I expected from a 4 per center. The dryness shocked me but once I got use to it this became a pleasant drink. Eventually I decided it was like supping a strong dark coffee.Well worth a try.
