| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 24, 2007 smooth and very typical of a stout. all you would expect in proper measure. low alcohol not noticeable and extra points for that. velvety and creamy but not too much so. touch of chocolate this is fairly good. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 2, 2004 Black with a big tan long lasting head. THe biggest thing that I notice about this is that it has this strange thin body and the taste seems to be just a bit dilute. THere is a sweeping malt flavour but it comes and goes. Tastes like a stout some of the time. kujo9 (1079), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 12, 2003 Very dark brown, nearly opaque liquid w/ a thick beige head. Roasty and smokey on first whiff, toffee and malty sweetness comes around as it warms. No hoppy or fruity aromas, it's all about the dark grains w/ a buttery (diacetyl) as it warms. Smokey and bitter start just as with the aroma, but roast is not as apparent in flavor compared to aroma. Caramel & buttery flavors also come through when warmed but finishes dry and bitter, even though hop flavors are not present. Sourness from dark grains also presents itself when warm. The body seems a little thin, even for a dry stout and is hop astringent with low carbonation. I like stouts, specifically dry stouts, but this is not one of my favorites. Too hoppy/bitter, even for a dry stout and could be better if it had more malt to balance. M0RHI (1067), Luxembourg, Luxembourg
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 19, 2007 Bottle. Pours a thick black with a tan head that fades quickly. Nose is roasted caramel malt, espresso, chocolate and a touch of rose turkish delight. Flavour is big on malts, burned and toasted maltiness and some long sand-dune grass. Quite gulpable, but not excruciatingly smooth. Finishes on the roasted side with some espresso bitterness and some lingering malt sweetness. Quite nice, could use some more ABV and a little less harshness on the immediate taste, but the smoothness makes up for it. Cobra (1066), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 19, 2003 500 ml. brown bottle. Poured out a deep, chocolate brown color with a rocky, fluffy dark tan head. Aromas right away of roasted malts, expresso, musty old barn. Strong tasting, coffee up front, with an expresso backbone, and an astringent, charcoal finish to it.
This is one roasty tasting brute of a beer, even though it has low alcohol content. Actually made me cough, because it was so roasty. Dry mouthfeel, with an aftertaste of burnt wood. haddon90 (1043), Alexandria, Virginia, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 28, 2003 Deep black color with a tan head. Roasted malt and caramel spring from the aroma. A thick complex taste. Not bad but not great either. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 14, 2003 Big brown head, nearly opaque, nearly black. Chocolate, coffee and roasted malt in the nose with an underlying liqueur-like sweetness. Strong coffee in the flavor and the finish; sweeter than I'd expect for the style (assuming that this is properly classified as a dry stout). A little bit of a thin mouthfeel, but good flavors. frylock (1027), Buffalo, New York, USA
