Pours utterly black with a small frothy baige head. Good lacing. Aroma is deeply roasted with tones of chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel is light, and could be mistaken for a little too thin. Flavour balances hard roasted malts well with lots of chocolate. Rastacouere (5559), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 11, 2005 Off-white film lasts a while atop the deep clear brown pour. Powdery chocolate notes climb through the heavily carbonated form underneath. Slightly woody light and malty flavours. Tartish toasted pumpernickel undertones boasts some originality in a good way all the while mineral and metallic character develops in a not so competent manner between roasted interludes. Very light palate, moderate carbonation. Average. Magicdave6 (5546), London, Greater London, England

Pours perfectly, really dark black with great brown head. Aroma is roasted malts with a little grassy hops. Taste is reasted malts and maybe burnt coffee with a balancing sweetness. Very nice ale, would like to get it in more often. bu11zeye (5530), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jan 24, 2004 Pours pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki-colored head. Decent retention and lacing.
If all beers could smell this good... rich, malty, chocolatey, nutty (pistachio) and woodsy (walnut). The flavor is almost absent compared to the nose. Well-balanced, but spritzy. Light-bodied with a fizzy mouthfeel. Lengthy, desert-dry finish. Not one of my favorite styles, but a very good dry stout. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

Roasted malty flavor with hints of some sweetness and a bitter finish. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 21, 2005 The Lure: Anise and vanilla sweetness surface atop the chocolatey malts. Somewhat vinous after a while, this is nonetheless a pretty attractive and intriguing perfume.
The Festivities: Roasted malts and dark chocolate relinquish their seductive powers to the overbearing mineral dryness. Chalk is brought up, sadly helped by the agressive carbonation. Some fruitiness manages to get through, but the dry metal sheets squash all hopes for tasty nourishment.
Transcendence: Zealousness breeds contempt. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
