Pours black with dark brown menisci and a medium light tan head. Aroma of heavy molasses, chocolate syrup, some hops, dark fruit, and hazelnuts...but the blackstrap molasses aroma is the strongest. Tastes malty, with a big hop presence, coupled with some finishing chocoff. The hops dominate the taste, shadowing the molasses. If this one tastes like it smelled, it would be a 4.2. However, the taste is a bit of a let-down, and the palate is watery, non-complex, and not very well balanced. I hate to take this one out back and kick its ass, because it showed such promise, but it leaves me no choice. Not worth the price.

500mL bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is black (not opaque). Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate/cocoa, caramel, roasted grain), lightly hoppy (resin), with light notes of vanilla, cassis, milk, hint of smoke/ash/peat. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery/creamy texture, lively carbonation. A bit too tart for my liking, but it has an interesting and pleasant aroma.

500 ml. bottle. Rich chocolate and malt aromas. Sweet. Opaque brown/black color with a finely bubbled and impressive tan head. Near medium in body with coarse carbonation. Flavor starts with chocolate, merges into coffee, followed by toasted malt, and then back to something like mocha. Cacao is in every sip. The finish tapers off to something smoky scotch malt with a tad of sour. Finishes rather dry, with a little sweet chocolate, and bitter from toasted, burnt malt. Does turn a little watery with time.

Looks nicer than it smells or tastes. Very dark. Full, light brown head. The aroma was light with a little roasted coffee and some earthy/ tomato plant smell. Taste was metalic with some tomato and a little malt. Very thin body for a stout. Unimpressive.

Black with small tan head, no lacing, thin to medium-bodied. Roasty and mocha tones with a hint of dry apricot. Hoppy, grassy taste, almost too dry. Again, another somewhat unbalanced brew from Orkney and again another brew whose taste didn't match the aroma.
