| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 9, 2003 Wonderful aroma that is dry but hints at cherries and bourbon barrels. Some coffee and chocolate. Nice head, but it dies quickly. Medium bodied with a very sharp bitterness. Tastes like wood. This would be better if the aroma gave way to a similar taste. Enjoyable beer, kind of odd stout. jazz88 (2237), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 7, 2003 Bottle. Black color with a brown laced head that grips the glass on the way down. A deep roasted bean aroma with plenty of bitter chocolate. The flavor mirrors the aroma with a robust dry roasted malt blast. PorterPounder (3138), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2004 Black as night pour with a creamy, lactic, off-white head with sticky lacing. Bitter Coffee aroma with a touch of licorice. Has a bit of a chocolately flavor with some coffee mixed in - notice a bit of frutiness as well. Creamy mouthfeel, but the lacticity gets just a bit cloying near the end and turns a bit too "earthy" tasting. Still, not a bad stout though. hopscotch (5490), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jan 24, 2004 Pours pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki-colored head. Decent retention and lacing.
If all beers could smell this good... rich, malty, chocolatey, nutty (pistachio) and woodsy (walnut). The flavor is almost absent compared to the nose. Well-balanced, but spritzy. Light-bodied with a fizzy mouthfeel. Lengthy, desert-dry finish. Not one of my favorite styles, but a very good dry stout. TheBeerGod (3157), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 14, 2004 Pours near black with a brown halo. The head is brownish red. Nose is roasted malt and burnt wood. Some lighter coffee notes as well. The taste seems more of the same - roasted malt, burnt wood, and some coffee. The body is a little thin but this in no way detracts from the beer. Otherwise the finish is smooth but a little bitter from the light hops and coffee. Good beer! flutetokill (515), Fresno, California, USA

Slightly sour lactose, smoked wood and roasted malt flavors. Nice medium body with crisp carbonation. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 8, 2004 Coffee and malt aroma. Quite similar to Tsunami Stout, but not as refined. Chocolate, Coffee, cream, malt. Overall its pretty good, nice lasting tan head, black body. It is thin, but it’s still pretty decent.
