| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 8, 2008 (Bottle). Aroma is sweet chocolate and malt. Color is dark reddish black, with a brown head. Flavor much more coffee than chocolate. Body is on the thin side, and the finish lacks intensity. Competent, but not impressive. alexanderj (2269), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 13, 2009 Bottle; poured a very dark brown with a small to medium tannish head. Aroma was actually quite strong and good for abv. Some definite grape/wine components, with roasted malt, caramel, meat and earth. Dry and thin on the palate. The aftertaste was not very appealing as it was a bit ashy and chalky. Flavor was really a let down from the aroma. Some caramel, alot of roasted malt, and something akin to butter. Not a great beer, but a great aroma. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 19, 2006 Bottle. Poured a medium sized tan head that mostly diminished, poor lacing, no visible carbonation, opaque, and a black hue. Nose was malty, coffee, roasty, and a little smokey. Flavor was coffee, malt, roasty, somewhat burnt tasting, thin, a little smokey, and a little bit of chocolate. Mouthfeel was slightly tingly and thin for this style. Light-medium body. Thin texture for this style and. There are better of this style out there IMO. Syd (903), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Oct 1, 2004 Bottle pours black with a nice tan head and some lace. The aroma is roasty and chocolate. The flavor is lactic, roasted, chocolate, and has a fairly rich palate but at the same time quite seemingly artificially carbonated. Ya know, overall, this is not real bad, but also not real good. I’ve had some good beers this evening, and I really do not want to bias my rating of this, but I’m not real impressed.
