| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 7, 2007 My third offering from Orkney; 500 mL bottle. This ESB is absolutely amazing from a drinkability standpoint. Very similar to its Dragonhead Stout brethren, the malt flavor is almost identical. Hops are clear on the front of the palate while the bitter hits both sides of the tongue. Pleasant aftertaste. I could really get in trouble with this one; rated 18 overall for my fondness of Red MacGregor’s drinkability. thebeertourist (2797), Oslo, Norway
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Nov 3, 2007 Bottle. Pours deep bronze with a lacing tan head. Caramel and chocolate aroma. Rather sweet from the start with chocolate and vanilla flavours. Creamy texture, rather flat. In the end it is highly drinkable, but far from challenging. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 24, 2007 9/20/2007: The Red MacGregor pours out brown with some suspended particles and a thick, foamy beige head. The malty aroma has some chocolate, vanilla, and molasses aroma and flavor. It has a slightly chalkiy/moldy finish. This beer has a medium-full body and is creamy and soft on the palate. Malty and flavorful. Not too bad overall.
500 ml bottle (Alc. 5% by Vol.) from Tmoney99 (Thanks Tom!) and shared with Rob. Rating #174 for this beer... harrisoni (6798), Ashford, Kent, England
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 31, 2007 Bottle from Peckhams, Glasgow. Ruby red with lasting beige head. Aroma of dry malt and red berries are good, with some hop. A little bit of chalk. Doesn’t really work in the bottle. Good aroma, rest is disappointing. Some milk choc. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 23, 2007 Bottle sampled. Pours deep red with a decent size khaki colored head. Aroma of floral hops, sweet malts, and caramel. The flavor is sweet, caramel, with a floral bitter finish. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 14, 2007 500ml bottle. Clear reddish copper with a big beige head that lasts the duration, descending rockily. Grass, light peat and caramel nose, a but of nuttiness. Light bodied, but the flavors fill in the blanks - earthy malt, lightly toasty caramel, mild nuts. Some floral hop towards the end, extending into the mildly bitter finish. Just a tiny bit of metal detracts from what is otherwise a very good brew! thegreenrooster (1835), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 11, 2007 Pour is a very nice looking red with a big pillowy tan head. Aroma is decent with lots of smoky malts and a nice citrus hop. Flavor is a little weaker than the aroma. Some carmel malts and it has a nice dry dusty finish. Low alcohol makes this one a easy drinker. malrubius (993), Valley Stream, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 9, 2007 500 ml glass in pint glass. Pours deep garnet red with light amber head and some lace. Surprisingly strong aroma of caramel, raisin bread, apple and peat smokiness (?). Flavors of caramel, medium tobacco bitternes, and mild fruitiness with slight bitter bite and aftertaste. Medium body, low carbonation. Pretty darn good. Very fresh, too, which helps in this case.
