Taste is slightly smoky and peaty, with a hint of bitter hops. A dull tint of whisky as it warms. Interesting beer, to say the least. Definitely worth a second try. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 18, 2005 Pours a rich copper color unter a foamy beige head. The nose held sweetness and grassy hops. Peat. Yes. Peat. Just happened to be tasting some Bruichladdich 3D "Peat Proposal" Islay Single Malt Whisky and recognized the hints of peat in this brew. Or was it the scotch playing with my taste buds? Anyway, it was watery and medium bodied. The flavor was malty, sweet, and, well, peat. ceejmomeechmo (58), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 5, 2005 Bottle from Binny’s... Poured a deep clear red with a soft tan head. Aromas were hoppy and earthy with hints of citrus and caramel. Flavors are simialr to the aromas. Mouthfeel was quite bold with a smooth malty finish. Overall, not a great example of the style, but drinkable nonetheless. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2005 Bottle from Peace St. Market, Raleigh. Pours dark straw/coppery with medium, uniform, off-white head. Aroma of initial hops, citrus, some caramel malt, black pepper. The aroma is very similar to Sam Adams Boston Lager. Tastes hoppy, with some malt, fruit, and a fruity, spicy finish. The palate is medium to heavy with good complexity. Seems to get more simple and watery as it warms, but nonetheless, this one is quaffable, and I will buy it again. TBone (6868), Pori, Finland

Beautiful reddish brown, filtered with a small and vaguely light brown head. Very soft, almost sweetish with pronounced malty notes and a very limited bitterness. Some smoke in there too. Nice. 040904 bmd34202 (7), Bradenton, Florida, USA does not count | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 17, 2005 Aroma was sweet yet somehow not entirely pleasant. Medium caramel sweetness, lightly bitter (less than expected), fizzy, surprisingly thin feel on the palate. Deep reddish brown color, thin head. hawkshadow (102), Rural Retreat, Virginia, USA

This is very smooth and palatable, not much bitter to be called a "bitter".
