Commercial Description:
Available filtered in 330ml bottles.
"Named after Thorfin Hausakliuuf, the seventh earl of Orkney, this reddish coloured ale has an intense vinous nose, is rich and satiny in the mouth with a long dry finish and deep rich fruity notes. Described as ’Satiny smooth in the mouth, deceptively light and dangerously drinkable’."

Bottle. Pours a crystal clear dark amber with 3 finger beige head and nice lacing. Nose is sweet with brown sugar, caramel and dark fruits. Palate is very sweet and malty with raisins, plums and toffee. A touch of hops in the dry finish. Lighter mouth feel. Bonus points for a great name, but a little boring and flat tasting even though there’s plenty of carbonation.

Amber with a lasting off-white head. Rich and malty aroma with biscuit and toffee. Dry and toffee malty flavour with a little alcohol sharpness in the finish.

4-pack from Total Wine, River Edge, NJ...pours iced tea reddish-brown, small off-white head...sweet smell of dark fruits, prune, raisin...flavor is much of the same with malts, some black cherry...quite carbonated.

Not my favorite. The initial taste is of sweet malts - caramel and dark fruit taste. A whiskey like alcoholic finish is not very pleasant. No hops at all. Smooth and lightly carbonated. Too sweet for me and not complex enough for a barleywine.

clear amber colour, two finger sized tan head with aromas of nuts, caramel, malts. It’s sweet and has licorice, smoke and oak in the taste. Nice retention in the head, staggered lacing- definately a potent ABV gives you a little buzz after one bottle.

Bottle. Pours an interesting brown with an off-white head. Aroma is vinous with noticeable malt characteristics as well. Taste is the same, with a slight alcohol burn at the end.

overly sweet for my taste as most foreign specialty beers seem to be - I like a better balance with the hops

12 oz bottle into a shaker. Pours rich hazelnut brown with a dirty light brown head with a bit too much carbonation IMO. Aroma is doughy and malty with some hops and citrus. The flavor is simpler than the more complex aroma. But, it is very tasty and malty and very much within the style - the alcohol is hidden unbelievably well. Almost chewy on the palate, but a bit thinner than the abv., aroma, and malty style might suggest. Overall: overpriced here at 11 dollars a 4 pack, but very good and worth trying if you can find a single (I got one for 3 dollars).
