Commercial Description:
Available filtered in 330ml bottles.
"Named after Thorfin Hausakliuuf, the seventh earl of Orkney, this reddish coloured ale has an intense vinous nose, is rich and satiny in the mouth with a long dry finish and deep rich fruity notes. Described as ’Satiny smooth in the mouth, deceptively light and dangerously drinkable’."

Skull Splitter, no kidding, I had two of these and I was buzzed. Pours a reddish-amber color with a nice head. Since I prefer IPAs, it was a little sweet for my taste but still pretty good. If you want a decent brew to get drunk, this is your number.

high alcohol content to match it’s high price. not the best beer around. could not drink more than 1 in a sitting, and prob wouldn’t buy again. nothing special here, but better than your average fair.

considered by MJ to be one of the 500 classic brews. Sweet, strong, powerful stuff. Drink this only after having a couple of beers to warm the pipes. Or, if you need to pass out and you’re out of nyquil.

Taffey caramel with dark fuits, mixed with a molassas laden fruit cake aroma, taste is rum butter cake, flecks of dark fruit, leaving a film of cakey sweetness on the palate. A slightly heavier version of this would be top 100 stuff. I’m thinking some American brewers used this formula for their anniversary brews

Bottle with the "old" label. I’ve had it for about 4 years. Aroma of red wine and dark fruit. More raisin than plum. Murky brown color with ruby hilites. The tan head totally disappeared. Full bodied with near creamy carbonation. Dark fruit, with a tang. Some sour. Molasses. Somewhat mouth puckering. Astringent, dry finish. Not a great deal of bitter. There is some heat towards the very end. Something of a bitter nature clamps on the rear edges of the tongue. It improves as it warms. I’d say it ages fairly well. Additional comments half through the ale: The bottle emitted a fair number of dark floaters. The mouth impact has gone smooth and delicious. Sensory fatigue, perhaps, but it’s getting to be really enjoyable.

Pleasant appearance...rich and malty, but overly sweet and overpowered by the hot booze. Just OK.
