Commercial Description:
Available filtered in 330ml bottles.
"Named after Thorfin Hausakliuuf, the seventh earl of Orkney, this reddish coloured ale has an intense vinous nose, is rich and satiny in the mouth with a long dry finish and deep rich fruity notes. Described as ’Satiny smooth in the mouth, deceptively light and dangerously drinkable’."

From a bottle poured brown with a small head. Bitter hoppy/malty flavor with a quick finish.

The bottle says ale. This website says barley wine. All I know is this is a nice beer. Doesn’t make much of a head. Has a nice aroma but little body. Has an apricot aftertaste. Surprisingly easy to drink.

Pour from the 12oz. bottle into a pint glass: Malty. Alcohol fairly well hidden with more sips taken. Tastes of dark fruit, brown sugar, molasses and faint spices. Leaves the palatte feeling chalky. A good barley wine, but definitely not my favorite. Drinkability: Dangerously drinkable. Rebuy: As it is for most barley wines... Yes. DG #132 on 08102009, DG.

(Rating #2686)

A big well crafted Barley wine. Viscous and satisfying with quite a bit going on. toffee, caramel, dark fruits etc. Almost borders on workmanlike, but keeps drawing me back for another sip.

2 months past the expiration date. I didn’t know it wasn’t bottle conditioned… Lovely, fine, tall head. Beer very dark brown with orange. Caramel, raisin, cookies, plus a bit of sherry in the nose. Very sweet flavor, chocolate and caramel, cherry, with a rather harsh bitter burnt finish. Rich and thick. Decently tasty but not put together as well as it could be.

330. Capped and foiled. Pours a crystal clear garnet that looks almost opaque from the right angle. Dense. Nice creamy tannish head with stringy lace, unfortunately doesn’t hang around for long. Caramel, brown sugar, molasses, a wee bit of campfire, doughy malts, and dates on the nose. Somewhat sticky, rather flattish body. Caramel, brown sugar, molasses, campfire, doughy malts, and dates all return for the mid-palate. Fairly mild finish, especially given the malt payload here. No sign of the alcohol. Or the hops, for that matter.
