Pours a clear dark copper colored body with a few small floaties under a smallish fizzy off-white head that fell to a partial covering. Aroma is sweet malt with a light peat and smoke accent. A little alcohol and port like note as well. Flavor is all malt, peated malt specifically. Moderate risidual sweetness, light alcohol, and a little graininess on the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a fairly thick, almost syrupy, texture and moderate very fizzy carbonation. Overall, this was OK, but a little lacking in depth. Still a fine sipper though. tig397 (64), dearborn heights, Michigan, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 9, 2007 The color was a nice deep red/orange. The head was thin, light biege, and fizzy. The aroma was tart, fruity, alcohol, wine-like, and sweet. The flavor was sour/bitter, a little alcho, but it wasn’t as strong in flavor as your typical barleywine. The palate was nicely carbonated with a thin/medium body. The finish was warm. BeerMeDude (28), USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 8, 2007 I thought I’d stray from my usual English and Irish selection to try some brews from Scotland. This was a decent one, though not one of my favorites by any means. A bit metallic and not as smooth as I would have liked. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 8, 2007 Poured a dark amber but lacking the thickness or consistency of a good BW. The head is medium thin, light tan, and frothy. The aroma resembles that of a Barley Wine but lacks the complexity and depth. Has a malty sweetness, dry alcohol, vinous notes. Tastes sweet and dry, also a bit vinous but lacking complexity. The palate was a bit thin. The finish was dry and sweet. Overall not a bad beer just not up to barleywine standards. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 7, 2007 Shared bottle with Brewfiend. Pours a dark amber brew with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, roasted barley malt, raisin and some red wine. Taste is sweet, lightly carbonated, smoky and a semi-dry finish. Did not pick up any hops in the finish. Great sipping barley wine. BDR (2170), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
