Aroma is very sweet malt with caramel with a strong raisin aroma. Flavor is very malty, sweet raisin, some light smokey flavor. Alcohol is high for this beer but pretty undetectable. Overall a great brew with a lot of great, heavy malt flavors. nerdrocker101 (102), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 21, 2009 Bottle. Pours clean brown with a minimal amount of head. Very malty, sweet to the taste. I know it’s a barley wine, but some hops would round this brew out more. Very easy to drink with a medium body and a smooth, silky texture. KnutAlbert (3217), Oslo, Norway

Strong malty brew, quite sweet with some alcohol in the finish. Not unlike a bock. Clear brown, a little fizz, rapidly disappearing head. Some more hoppy dryness would have lifted this quite a bit. punkrkr27 (641), Berkley, Michigan, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2009 Mahogany colored pour with a 1-finger, tan head. Lots of dark fruit aroma with notes of rum, butterscotch, ripe bananas, damp wood, and alcohol. Very alcohol laden, boozy flavor. Like rum without the spice. Lots of date, raisin, and fig flavors. A little hint of wood and smoke. Vinous notes on the finish. Sticky medium body with a fair amount of carbonation. stankenk (130), Maplewood, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 7, 2009 Bottle - Poured dark red with a good sized, lightly tanned head. The nose consisted of toffee, dark chocolate, caramelized dates, figs and subtle woody notes. Comes across the paltate moderate hops with toasted malts, roasted nuts, rich toffee, rum & raisin chocolate, & notes of oak. A nice lingering finish. Very rich easy drinking ale from Orkney. | 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/20 | May 31, 2009 Has a sour fruit aroma like some Belgian beers, not like the other barleywines I’ve tried. Flavor isn’t sour, which is good, but the alcohol flavor comes across like maybe a some sort of liquer or maybe brandy? Yeasty. Not doing it for me. jvmiller (532), Bel Air, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 29, 2009 Didn’t think this was a barley wine. Had lagery bitterness to it, kind of pukey flavor, unpleasant aftertaste. Very carmally, dark fruit, but I didn’t really like it overall.
