Commercial Description:
Available filtered in 330ml bottles.
"Named after Thorfin Hausakliuuf, the seventh earl of Orkney, this reddish coloured ale has an intense vinous nose, is rich and satiny in the mouth with a long dry finish and deep rich fruity notes. Described as ’Satiny smooth in the mouth, deceptively light and dangerously drinkable’."

It’s been a long time since I’ve had this - was a favorite waaaay back in 2004-2005 when this was actually sold in these parts.<BR. Poured out a clear, deep ruby brew with ample very light tan head that took a while to die down leaving some decent messy lacing. Very forward aroma: thick and caramelly, raisins, lightly toasted rye bread, dates?, spices, medium roast and mid range sweetness. The taste is also pretty good: Solid malts, caramel, dark fruits, cherry, chocolate, nutty and faint smoke. Good stuff but nothing to sell your house over. Fairly smooth, medium bodied, coats the mouth and finishes long with a welcome bitterness.

Bottled, filtered, 330ml purchased at the Dun Cow, Hornton, Oxon. Brown to ruby with cream head. Strong, rich and sherry like, slightly sweetish with a well developed, balanced character. Rich, fruity and very moorish,. great stuff.

Bottle 330ml. Delicious beer. Aromas of dark fruit, burnt caramel, and port. Flavour is sweet, long-lasting, and it has some lingering bitterness. Palate is syrupy, with a medium-full body. Brown colour, with a creamy head that doesn’t last all the way.

Nice dark reddish brown color with a good white soapy head. The malts are sweet, with notes of roasted and caramel flavors. Good bittering finish with slight licorice, and fig hints. Very drinkable and smooth. Nice carbonation with small bubbles. Great alcohol balance with the malts.

33cl bottle, design has been updated. Pours a deep, clear mahogany with a small off-white head of medium retention. Some lacing. Aroma of sweet apples, licorice, toffee - and hops. Medium- to heavy-bodied strong/red ale, thick, oily mouth feel. Moderate carbonation. Rather sweet taste of fruit in rum and licorice, with a bitter-ish middle and finish. Higher abv is noticeable throughout. Lingering alcoholic aftertaste, too. If I want a Belgian tripel/quadrupel, I’ll order one. ;=) Too sweet for my tooth - but obviously a well-made beer of its kind. Smooth, wee heavy, "comforting". Sinclair are a good brewery for sure.

Bottled 33cl. Extremely inviting aroma of cookies, dough, papaya, apple, faint peat- a huge amount of character- rather special. The taste is definetely less interesting. Sweet and nutty. Residual sugars in the finish which is reminiscent of dried apricot, raisin and walnuts.

Bottle. Pour a deeper amber with an off white head. Malty sweet aroma with some over ripe fruit. The flavor has a fruity sweetness, toffee, and a lighter hint of earth. Pretty good.
