| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 15, 2009 Sample at brewery taproom. Had both a filtered and unfiltered version. Rating reflects filtered version. Filtered version: Dark coppery brown with lacing. Rich chocolate malts are inviting, with cocoa aromas. Medium carbonation and a nice soft palate. Thin finish but before that, has a nice roasted chocolate malt pureness. Unfiltered version:Bright coppery brown with more lacing than the filtered version. Same chocolate malt aroma with a little extra yeast kick. Nice palate is softer than the filtered version. Really nice sweetness from the malt. Toastiness is nice, pure, and bready. I even detect some smokiness, like smoked figs. 4-6-4-7-14 kramer (2465), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jan 26, 2009 12 oz bottle, gifted by redlight, thanks man! Pours a clear light brown with a small frothy head that faded to a thin film. The nose is grainy, husky, and weak with a bit of nuttiness and coffee. The flavor is just as thin and weak with just a slight nutty and grainy flavor. Tastes like they took a decent Brown Ale and thinned it to half the concentration. Mouthfeel is thin and watery with light fizzy carbonation. This was pretty bad, it has to rate near the bottom of all Brown Ales I’ve had. mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 3, 2008 Updated: Dec 6, 2008The appearance is light brown with a average head. The aroma is actually spot on for the style with toasted malt, caramel, nuts, and hops but its way to weak. The taste is like the aroma being too weak and possessing an astringent bitterness. The palate is thin. Overall not a bad beer but one that needs to buff up. satan165 (597), River Grove, Illinois, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 12/20 | Sep 21, 2008 on tap at brewpub. nice one finger head, very slight aroma of cocoa. even with decent carbonation, pallete is lacking. espically for this style, the commonly thin OB mouthfeel hurts the experience drastically. nose opens a bit after a few sips, flavor is of very slight chocolate binded with a metallic aftertaste which is quite numbing. aluminum begins to creep into the nose as well about half way through the glass. intense lacing. of the three OB beers i tried, this had the most carbonation, head and lacing yet the mouthfeel was barely as silky as id like or expect for the style. nose and flavor continue to evolve but this remains still beneath even a dirty old newcastle. changeup45 (797), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 6, 2008 Sampled on draft. Deep amber-brown color with a thin bar poured head. Sweet malty flavor with fruits and light hopping in the finish. Nothing all that complex but this is a pretty good beer. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA
