eaglefan538 (2020), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 2, 2006 Updated: Jul 31, 2007 Original rating: A step down from some of the other trappists only due to its "less exciting" style. Fantastic Belgian Ale, though. Poured a hazy unfiltered amber orange color with a head that made pouring the bottle a challenge. Aroma was somewhat floral and yeasty, but also citrusey. Flavor was mildly sour with grapes and apples, somewhat of a cross between a saison and a witbier. A nice lingering dry and bitter (hops and yeast) finish. Re-rate after at least two more separate experiences at the WIne Loft in Flagstaff, and another bottle at home: This sucker is a gem. The aroma is so complex and wild, tons of stuff going on, floral notes, a distinctive and unmistakeable grape touch, yeast, perfume (in an unoffensive way, though), just lots of stuff. The flavor is as complex, very drinkable, dry, acidic, funky, bitter, even fruity sweet in there too, just about any and everything a beer could deliver on, all melded together in a fashion that is delectable (I think that’s the word, who cares if not, it’s just great). Not sure why I didn’t re-rate this thing after my other two experiences, I guess I didn’t realize how boring of a rating I had in here on this one. Great, Great, Great, stuff.
pepsican (640), the beer wastelands of, Iowa, USA Jul 17, 2008 Possibly the last beer I will have until the great taste of the midwest. An old classic here. Strong floral hop and brett nose with a touch of vinager and funk. flavor is quite a bit of floral brett/hop fusion with some spices and some light fruity esters. Finishes bubbly with a bit of alcohol and the slightest touch of tartness. This review is from a fresh bottle. they get more fun the longer you leave them around... GMCC2181 (303), Bear, Delaware, USA Jul 17, 2008 Bottle: This one is for eaglefan538 aka Brian. I read his rating/raving and had to try this... Orange/amber in color, big head that left a nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet spices and a small amount of hops. Taste is fruity, spicy and a touch of hops. Smooth and easy to drink. Medium texture with low carbonation. A little dry but overall a good brew. mikkopen (87), Oulu, Finland Jul 17, 2008 330 ml bottle. Hazy orange colour. Big and lasting white head. Aroma of citrus fruits and dry champagne. Foamy and smooth mouthfeel. Very dry and fruity flavour, with hoppy bitterness and some alcohol warmth in the finish. Very interesting and enjoyable. janir (131), Oulu, Finland Jul 17, 2008 Hazy orange color with huge, long-lasting, cloudy and lacy off-white head. Aroma is sourish, apple-like, yeasty and fruity. Flavor is dry, sour, fruity and spicy with bitter finish. Palate is medium-bodied, dry with smooth and foamy carbonation JCastner (6), New York, USA does not count Jul 16, 2008 Pours a deep copper with a firm white head. Aroma is of citrus (combination of orange and lime). Light bodied with good carbonation. Tastes of cloves, then sweet malt with faint hints of fruit, then some dry hoppiness. I’m not sure if it deserves such a high rating but it is very enjoyable nonetheless.
