Commercial Description: Attractive, sweet, floral aromas of Asian pears and longans are accentuated by a spicy, lightly yeasty palate hinting of licorice, and a dry, clean, lingering finish. This intense, focused, versatile sake will pair well with a variety of dishes from Beef Tartare to Vietnamese Lemongrass Chicken. 375ml 17% alc./ vol. $24.90
Sample from the brewery in Vancouver. Poured from a small wine shaped bottle. The aroma is really very inviting: pear, apple, rice with a hint of anise. Body is smooth. There is more apple, pear in the flavour, but rice predominates. Slightly spicy with some alcohol.
(375ml Bottle) Purchased at Spinnakers Spirit Merchant in James Bay, Victoria, BC, for $24.00. I swore I wasn’t going to get into buying sake bottles as I’m now on a budget due to the baby but it was really tempting to try this version as I was sold on the tiny, Russian River-sized bottle and astronomical price tag. Okay, okay... I was already tempted but knew that I don’t have the stomach to start and complete a 750ml bottle in a reasonable timeframe. This sake smelled different off the bat - more pear and white wine; I often find sake to have a root vegetable nose. This has a very pleasant palate too with some spice and apple cider flavours melding and providing a very manageable and smooth alcohol burn in the finish. I really like this and will likely be sample more from Artisan Sakemaker Studio when our finances free up some more.Kampai!
