Tap at Capones. Pours a hazy copper with a bubbly off white head that laced. Aroma was woody, lots of hoppy citrus notes, floral, caramel and light vanilla. Flavor of the same whiskey more pronounced in flavor.

On tap at Capones. Poured a medium amber/golden color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of wood, caramel, toffee, and citrus. Tastes of oaky/woodiness, whiskey, caramel, and vanilla. Some lacing left on the glass.

On tap at the brewpub under the name Whisky Barrel Aged Dale’s Pale Ale. Pours a cloudy orange with a very small white head. The aroma is still pretty hoppy amid the tannins with a fairly solid citrus identity. Obvious crystal malt and a dash of wood are also noted. I was surprised to find this much bitterness entact in the flavor. Despite the hoppiness, a solid, tasteful vanila/oak sweentess is found throughout. I thought the barrel aging was very excellent and worked in harmony somehow with this pale ale. Halfway through my pint I notice the juicy orange/pineapple flavors more. This is a good beer. I’d say I prefer the standard Dale’s however.

Draught. This is Dales Pale Ale aged in Stranahan’s Whiskey barrels. Pours hazy amber with an average, fizzy, white head, somewhat diminishing with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, bread, caramel), heavy hops (flowers, grass, grapefruit), average yeast (dough) with notes of alcohol, grapes, vanilla, and oak. Light bodied, thin texture, soft carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness. The whiskey mellows out the hops and creates an almost candied hop flavor.
