bblack99 (195), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jul 6, 2009 12oz can pours a clear amber with a thin white head that persists as a thin stripe for quite a while.
Doughy aroma is strong and combines with the hops for a pleasant nose. Initial blast of flavor is almost skunky, but levels out with better hoppy flavors of Cascade and Columbus and finishes well. I’m not familiar with the Northern Brewer, but perhaps it’s their flavor that throws things off for me.
Best beer I’ve had in a can, for sure. fata2683 (836), Panama City, Florida, USA Jul 5, 2009 can, pours light amber with a thin to medium off white head. Aroma is full of a doughy malt and hops with some notes of candied apple. Light malt body with some sweetness that is quickly interupted by a super fresh hop bitterness. Cascade is there for sure, but it’s got a peppery hop presence that is nice as well. This is solid and packed with flavor. tarheels86 (703), Washington DC, USA Jul 4, 2009 12 oz Can. Pours a clear, deep amber with a one finger, tan, rocky head that has great retention and leaves spotty lacing. Aroma is caramel malt, maple syrup, raw hops cones. Taste is a little cardboardy with a giant wallop of piney hops and not too much malt backing- verging on unbalanced. Very long, bitter finish. Best pale ale I’ve tried save for All Other Pale. 6.5% is well hidden but makes itself apparent after a little while. Definitely a serious pale ale. Highly recommended. Hoppy aroma. Golden coloured and hoppy with a little dryness in a crisp and bitter malt finish. Cruzan59 (197), Lititz, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 1, 2009 Can’t believe I’m just getting to this rating now...maybe because I knew it wasn’t a one-off purchase. Absolutely by far "thee" best beer I’ve ever had in a can. And this Pale Ale can challange anything in a bottle...not that it has to be in a bottle to be good. Definitely glass worthy...nice amber pour...frothy off-white head...smooth mouthfeel...nice hop character and malt balance...this is a staple in my fridge...goes in that cool can rack on the door! msante79 (778), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA Jul 1, 2009 12oz can from Old Chicago. Pours copper with white head. Aroma is hoppy with citrus and caramel malt. Flavor is hops with citrus, caramel malt and some pine. Nice hoppy pale ale. punkeedo (465), San Antonio, Texas, USA Jun 30, 2009 2009 Can. A delightfully surprising pale ale, get ready to get punched in the face with some hops! A creamy mouthfeel with a somewhat acidic finish, this pale ale is hoppy through and through. Aroma, flavor, aftertaste, etc. Wonderful for a hot day, this pale ale is great with a meal, a cigar, or anything you’re doing. Well done. Uglyradio (773), Greenville, South Carolina, USA Jun 30, 2009 Nice hoppy aroma...Copper color with thin lasting head...Medium body, mild carbonation...Flavors are well balanced between malty sweetness and the pine citrus hop flavors...Just a hint of bitterness in the finish...
