otakuden (518), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 25, 2008 While I could savor my Dale’s Pale Ale from the can, only in emergencies or dire situations will that ever arise. Instead, I poured her clear golden orange body into my ale glass and watched gleefully as a rich head almost immediately formed, fading down into a good ring around my glass. From the foam alone, brussels lace adheres to my glass like seaweed on rice. A ripe assault of fresh citrus and grassy hops with a hint of caramel malts converge on my olfactory senses. Beautiful. I can tell I am in for a hoperific pale ale. Sweet caramel right up front, smooth and creamy body, with a bitter zing of pine and sweet grass coming in second. An oily finish that doesn’t immediately dry my palate, but leaves my mouth watering for more. Each quaff leaves an amazingly huge blanket of brussels lace all over my glass. As Dale’s Pale Ale warms up a bit, the palate softens and the malts meld well with the hop oils, resiny pine, and zesty bitter citrus finish. I really like how it’s maltier up front with hints of caramel and nuts, then moving over into hop territory.
Pack a sixer for a hike in the woods or day out on the water, and you can’t go wrong. BrotherGrendel (551), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 23, 2008 Appearance is burningly bright orange with amber highlights, thin white lacing of head is minimal, fair lacing on the glass.
Smell is moderate pine and citrus hops with sweet caramel/pale malts in the background, nice presence for a pale ale.
Taste is a nice mix of lighter caramel sweetened malts and more of a pine resin hops, some floral and orange tones pop up in the middle, finishes mildly bitter with biscuit malts.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, smooth and thick texture adds more heft than most pales, mild carbonation.
Drinkability is high, a bold and nicely hopped pale ale with great malt presence and balance, the alcohol is non-descript and there is enough here to keep drinking all night long. My current favorite all-around beer, this is so solid! blipp (1631), Newark, New Jersey, USA Aug 23, 2008 Draft at Buffalo Brewfest. Pours orange with a white head. Light floral aroma with a touch of caramel. Well balanced flavor with floral and grassy hops. Nice. T2Tool (352), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Aug 23, 2008 Poured from a 12-oz can copper with a nice fluffy white head. Hoppy citrus smell dominated. The taste is essentially the same as the smell, but with some malt coming through to balance it out. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 22, 2008 Thought this was an ok beer, but the novelty of good beer in a can wore off pretty quickly. Poured an amber color with a whitish head. Aroma of citrus and sweet malt. Flavor of malt and yeast with a good hop balance. Good beer. pik5el (51), Pasadena, Maryland, USA Aug 21, 2008 wow, very tasty. the can makes this the perfect beach companion for a hot day. awesome balance of flavor. i really like it. i can’t believe that something this good comes in a can. the hop/malt balance is really excellent. nice caramel overtones and citrus hops. good job oskar. bconger (75), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Aug 21, 2008 Updated: Oct 5, 2009Can. Pours a true amber with a slightly greenish, off-white head. Aromas of citrusy hops but there is a slight note of old broccoli too. Rich malts and white bread are balanced by caramel and huge hops. Love it! (Despite the broccoli.) ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Aug 18, 2008 Can. Pours a coppery color with a decent sized tan colored head. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, caramel. Flavor is grapefruit, hint of pineapple, caramel, pine. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, finished bitter. This is one of the best exaples of the style. Terrific session beer!
