Commercial Description:
Brewed with hefty amounts of European malts and four kinds of American hops, it delivers a blast of hop aromas, a rich middle of malt and hops, and a thrilling finish. It weighs in at 6.5 % alcohol by volume. Why squeeze such a big brew into a little can? Because we think fun in the great outdoors calls for great beer. Our cans go where bottled beers can't, where flavorless canned beers don't belong. And no matter where you drink Dale's Pale Ale, our can protect it from light and oxidation far better than bottles do.

Northern Brewer for bittering, Cascade and Columbus for flavor, and a big, post-boil addition of Centennial for aroma.

Thanks to TannerTavernBoys for sharing this. Aroma had strong floral hops that was very perfume-like. Medium brown boyd with a mild head. Starts out with a decent malt body, but the hops on the finish are metallic and cardboardish. It appears this was an older bottle. If I can get my hands on a fresh can I would love to try this again and rerate.

can - Pours lightly hazy copper with a fluffy, two finger head. It has a good citrus hop aroma and tastes moderately hopped with light citrus and pine notes. This ale is a tasty example of the style.

On tap at the Mad Mex in Oakland. Foamy head and the color of iced tea. I can tell without even looking at the style that this is an IPA. The smell of floral hops abounds. Forget ’pale ale’ as it says on the label. If you were looking for some well behaved pale ale, this may disappoint and offend your taste buds. This stuff is IPA all the way. I’m chewing on green grapefruit rinds. Has some decent creamy carbonation. Has that typical IPA bitter finish that keeps going and going. Certainly a good representative for such an acrid style. Did not notice the high percent alky while drinking.

Deep clear amber color with a spectacular, creamy off white head. Malty aroma with hops coming through nicely! This is surprisingly good. Bitterness blended well with a malty presence and a long drying finish. Maybe I’m thrown off because this is the first beer I’ve drunk that was canned in more than 20 years. Very tasty!

12oz. from the brewery, canning date 10/2/08. Fresh, fruity and sweet aroma, citric and lightly malty, with notes of pine, orange, toasty biscuit and toffee. Clear medium amber color with a lasting, fine head. Flavor profile clearly shows the balance that this beer is known for, with prominent but not overwhelming hoppiness, bringing a good dosage of spicy bitterness, pine and citrus flavor, blended with a gently sweet, toasty, honeyish maltiness that helps round things out nicely. Amply carbonated but not overly so, palate is smooth and a tad oily, body is medium. Certainly one of the better examples of this style one is likely to run across.

I have been curious about this one for a while now. Sampled from a 12 oz can this beer poured a chestnut color with a large tan head. The aroma is sour malts with a vaguely vegetal undertone and mild floral hops. The flavor is sweet malts with a bit of grapefruity hops. The body is moderately thick. The hops while noticeable are rather subdued. This one really reminds me more of an English style pale ale rather than an American pale ale.

As far as beers in a can go, this is a diamond in the rough. Like other Oskar Blues brews, this is a very nice treat. With a slightly malty and roasty carmelly flavor and not too big of a hop profile, this is a great candidate for a summer hike or camping trip.

Can. Pours a clear, copper amber with a lacy off-white head. The aroma is flowery, with some fruit and oranges. Medium body, slighlty creamy with medium carbonation. The taste starts mildly sweet with caramel, fruit and some roasty malt. Grapefruit and pine finish that sort of drifts into IPA land.
