Commercial Description:
Brewed with hefty amounts of European malts and four kinds of American hops, it delivers a blast of hop aromas, a rich middle of malt and hops, and a thrilling finish. It weighs in at 6.5 % alcohol by volume. Why squeeze such a big brew into a little can? Because we think fun in the great outdoors calls for great beer. Our cans go where bottled beers can't, where flavorless canned beers don't belong. And no matter where you drink Dale's Pale Ale, our can protect it from light and oxidation far better than bottles do.

Northern Brewer for bittering, Cascade and Columbus for flavor, and a big, post-boil addition of Centennial for aroma.

Can. Nice aroma of grapefruit and some malt. Flavor is similar but the hop finish is more piney. Good mouthfeel, and the initial malt flavor is soft. Good beer for frequent drinking.

Deep amber with a small head and loads of lacing. Resinous, citrusy nose. Interesting array of hops, as the commercial description can attest and enough to tip the balance toward the more hoppy APA’s. Found some of the maltiness in the latter whiffs of the aroma, and on the back of the tongue on the palate. Nicely carbonated, medium-bodied, with a dry, lingering finish.

12oz can. Semi-opaque orange/amber pour with a big beige head. Sweet malt aroma with some floral hops and notes of bread. Sweet and bready malt flavor up front with a bitter hop finish.

From a 12oz Can. Had a couple of these straight from the can during the July 4th fireworks celebration, and revisited from the glass a couple of days later; impressions were the same. Pours a mostly transparent, blood-oranged hued amber color with a finger of creamy white foam. Aroma of honeydew melon with a subtly spicy blend of white grapefruit and sprucey hops. A bit of gooey caramel and graham cracker play in the background. Medium-light bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel. Flavors of toffee and musk-melon up front on the palate with a fresh dose of herbal pine. A minor diacetyl buttery-ness provides some unpleasantness partway through the palate. This fades, however, allowing a final smack of earthy spruce needles to come through. A bit dirty overall, both in hop character and diacetyl presence, although the nose seems clean enough.

What a beer. And from a can! I had low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Good hop aromas. Good malty mouth coating.

I’m late to this whole "beer in a can?" shocker. So I’ll just say: Beer in a can? Yup. And it’s good. One of the best APA beers I’ve had in awhile.

12 oz can, snifter. Wow...very nice hop aroma...grapefruit and pine. Toasted bread and caramel malt. Simple, but those hops are so damn fresh. Medium amber hue with a small, fizzy, white head. Moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter flavor becomes a lightly sweet, moderately acidic, heavily bitter finish. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. The bottom line is: "can issue" aside, this is a damn fine beer. Really nice biscuity malt in the flavor. "Can issue" included, there will no longer be a Diet Sprite option in the soda machine at work. }=) edit: I’ve had a few more out of the six pack and I’m moving it up 0.2 to 3.9. This is a fantastic sessionish beer.

Bright clean effervescent hop aroma (cascade for sure, amarillo too?). Caramelly malt flavor, a bit thin. Could use a bit more caramel sweetness.
