Pours light orange with a nice fluffy head. The aroma is a nice crisp pine and citrus, surprisingly c-hopped for an APA. The flavor has all of this hoppy goodness, but with it comes a way-too-sweet bready malt and buttery tones that all but ruin the beer for me. The hops return on the finish, but that mid-portion of the taste really detracts from everything else.
Sure, it’s better than most of what I can get in a can, but it’s just not that good. After all the hype, I’m disappointed. GAManiac (1188), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2008 Poured a hazy amber color with a quickly dissipating off-white head leaving a little bit of lacing. Nose is dominated by citrus with a slight piney scent following. It tastes a bit like a hop-filled pine forest with a little bit of lemon zest thrown in. The hop flavor skews strongly to the bitter end of things, though in a good way. Sticky mouthfeel with a slight lingering bitterness. Though the bitterness can be a bit abrasive, I really enjoy this beer and always end up drinking more than I intend...I guess that makes it pretty drinkable! markwise (1187), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 7, 2009 I have been surprised by almost every OB beer. This one pours a deep yellow with a nice white head. Aroma is malt, citrus (grapefruit), and some piney hop notes. Flavor is lots of malt with mellow floral and bitter citrus and pine hops harmonizing together. Noticeable lemon, in the flavor and a bit of grapefruit in the finish. Very enjoyable beer. jcr (1179), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 19, 2007 I’ve had this several times and always enjoyed it because of the nice balance between hops and malts. Cloudy orange body. Off-white head. Aroma is moderately malty with notes of cookie dough. The nose displays even more aromas from the hops with notes of resin, grapefruit and flowers. Moderately sweet flavor and moderately bitter in the finish. Medium body and lively carbonation. Very good. troyc (1175), Lubbock, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 7, 2008 (Can) Pours an orange/amber color with a small amount of head. Strong aroma of pine and citrus. Hops also dominated the flavor, with some subtle sweet caramel and biscuit notes. Sticky, thick mouthfeel. Lots of citrus in the finish as well. Relatively low carbonation. A very good beer, especially for being in a can. Not sure why this beer isn’t considered an IPA though... RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2007 Pours a cloudy brownish amber wit ha half-inch white head that quickly fades. Pleasant soft malt aroma with some nice big hops. Flavor is classic pale ale: sweet malt shallowly buried under a bitter, tangy citrusy hop character. Slightly on the thin side of medium bodied. Nice lacing. A very good pale ale. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA

The aroma finds caramel, citrus, and some floral. The flavor is much the same with big hops standing out. Medium body and moderate bitterness throughout. Very nice! | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 29, 2009 12 oz can courtesy of the Three Cellars singles selection (Franklin, WI). Pours a well hazed orangish amber with decent whitish head that laces and sticks around to most extent. Aromas are a very nice florally hop presence. Grass, lemon, light grapefruit, and light pale malts make up the nose with decent power and a tasty appeal. Initial is light bodied, sessionable in body and taste, pale malts mix with a nice lemony and grapefruity hoppiness, balancing the sweetness and leaving a pleasant bitterness on the palate. Certainly not the strongest pale ale, but a good sessioner and great beer on the go with can appeal. Finish is bitter, lending some sharp hop and bitterness at times. Picks up a point for being able to pick out some resinous piney feel. Sessionable yes and a good APA, but not the best by some ways.
