Commercial Description:
Brewed with hefty amounts of European malts and four kinds of American hops, it delivers a blast of hop aromas, a rich middle of malt and hops, and a thrilling finish. It weighs in at 6.5 % alcohol by volume. Why squeeze such a big brew into a little can? Because we think fun in the great outdoors calls for great beer. Our cans go where bottled beers can't, where flavorless canned beers don't belong. And no matter where you drink Dale's Pale Ale, our can protect it from light and oxidation far better than bottles do.

Northern Brewer for bittering, Cascade and Columbus for flavor, and a big, post-boil addition of Centennial for aroma.

On tap at the brewpub, 4/13/06: Bright orange with an excellent sticky head. Nice little hoppy aroma. Yummy citric hoppiness wit a solidly sweet malt backdrop.

Can. Slight hazy amber/orange with a fantastic thick white head & good lacings. The aroma is of bitter hops & sweet malts. The mouhfeel is filling. Good hoppiness that lastes throughout. Fruity/flowery & piney with a light malty balance. Soft carbonation. Lasting end. Very nice can of beer!

Poured a light copper color with a sticky off white head and it left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet caramel malts, and surprisingly no hops however. Taste was very nice with bitter citrus, light roast and also some sweet malt. The best canned beer I have ever drank on an airplane! Frontier Airlines.

India Pale Ale #100. Many thanks to Skyview trucking this in for the Cellar’s tasting. Copper color with a thin head. Slight citrus hop aroma. The taste has an almost vegetal hop quality to it with a finish of dry caramel. Someone apparently said this was the country’s best canned beer? Uh, no. Not even the best in Oskar’s lineup.

Late 2005 or early 2006 six-pack Consumed over a number of days in late January. I done drinked it straight from the can, so I don’t know ’bout no ’pearance. No just kidding, it’s a clear marigold with loads of fairly dense, lasting (and lightly lacing) beige colored head, plenty of bubbles rising. Nose is rough and raw hop greeness. Juicy, very floral and citric at the same time, without any real fruitiness. Bits of grass clippings, touch of pine. Malt is caramelly sweet in the nose, but allows the hop aroma to dominate. Light sourness from munich-like grains. The flavor shows more of the melanoidins from the malt, and plenty of hop bitterness. Plant-like and green, it’s more floral than anything, with a very dry, unripened grapefruit flavor, orange rinds and light touches of pine sap. Malts almost seem to add to the dryness, especially on the end, as it comes off extremely bready. Fitting carbonation for a can, not over-the-top, but certainly present. Papery-bready mouthfeel, softened a touch by the caramel maltiness, but barely so. No alcohol apparency. After it warms, the breadiness, crystally/caramely malt simplicity and monotonous hop acidity become too heavy on the palate.
