Commercial Description:
Brewed with hefty amounts of European malts and four kinds of American hops, it delivers a blast of hop aromas, a rich middle of malt and hops, and a thrilling finish. It weighs in at 6.5 % alcohol by volume. Why squeeze such a big brew into a little can? Because we think fun in the great outdoors calls for great beer. Our cans go where bottled beers can't, where flavorless canned beers don't belong. And no matter where you drink Dale's Pale Ale, our can protect it from light and oxidation far better than bottles do.

Northern Brewer for bittering, Cascade and Columbus for flavor, and a big, post-boil addition of Centennial for aroma.

This was recommended to me by Chris at Peabody’s in Boone, NC - thanks Chris! Once I got past the can and its connotations, and maintained my objectivity, I found this to be a really excellent beer. Clear amber under a big frothy and lasting head with outstanding lacing, this beer is very inviting to look at indeed. Aroma of light caramel and citrus hops suggests what is to come. Perfect mouthfeel and body without excessive carbonation. There is an initial sweetness of caramel and light brown sugar, but this is quickly followed by a substantial hop presence of pine, grapefruit, and bitter orange. Finishes clean, bitter, and astringent. Tasted blind, I’d call it an IPA. Whatever it is, it’s excellent.

12oz can from a liquor store in northern Mass. Pours a hazy amber-orange with a good half inch of off-white head. Smells strongly of grapefruit/citrus hops with hints of caramel malt. Tastes like citrussy hops first, with undertones of caramel and biscuit malt. On the heavy side of medium bodied with moderate carbonation - flirting with viscosity without hitting it or losing drinkability. An exquisite APA for sure - one I’ll be drinking as regularly as I am able to. Good stuff.

really nice amber color. Nice white head, that seems to last a bit, good lacing on the glass........aroma is a wonderful balance of malt and hops. The flavour is awesome! Such a big bang of hops, hops and more hops. really nice, and the finish isnt that bitter at all. wow, if i could get this all the time, it would easily be my daily drinker! So smooth, and loaded with flavour, GREAT IPA.

Pours a transparent golden-orange with a pillowy off white head with a tinge of yellow. Aroma of citrus fruits and bready caramel malt...some pine as well. Nice combination of resiny piney hops, some light citrus and bready sweet malt. For a pale ale it has a huge body, everything coats...both malty and sticky with a nice balance between sweet and bitter....more malty sweetness in the front with the bitter tangy hops creeping in midway through the bitter/almost dry finish. Overall a thick and sticky APA that drinks like a heavy IPA...great stuff.

Poured from the can a dark amber with a beige head. Aroma is full of citrus hops and caramel. Flavor is a grapefruit bitterness with a touch of lemon peel and some sweet malts make their way through.

most excellent beer from a can - please do yourself a favor and pour it into a glass before drinking to experience the full effect - excellently dry hopped to give it a wonderful citrusy/piny aroma is followed by a wonderfully balanced hoppy/malty drink - this is the second beer that I have had from this brewery which has just become available locally, can’t wait to try more

Ahh, Dale’s... the session ale of choice for hopheads in my little city. Pouring from the can into a glass, I marvel at this brew’s frothy head, beneath which a golden amber liquid sits and waits excitedly for its journey into my mouth. But first the aroma... A fresh burst of juicy hoppiness greets the nose, mingling sweet herbal notes with mild citrus qualities. The first sip introduces Dale’s delicious malt flavor, remeniscent of a good chocolate chip cookie. A vague metallic taste lingers, although the bold flavors try hard to hide it. As noted by previous reviewers, this pale ale achieves a nearly perfect balance of malts and hops. Each component helps the other one to show off its best characteristics. I think they have great Rocky Mountain water in Lyons as well. I visited the Oskar Blues establishment and had some Dale’s from their tap -- amazingly it tasted just like their canned product. (The same cannot be said for most bottled beers, which always have better flavor at the brewery.) Go cans!

(Thanks to Jah Noth) poured a hazy orange color with a nice off white head. It had a nice bold citrus hop aroma with some nice sweet caramel malts. The taste was bitter as if it was an IPA with a huge citrus hop flavor and a slightly sweet finish. Overall I would love to have more of this and think it is a great example of a strong pale ale.
