Blom (605), Odense, Denmark Oct 6, 2007 Updated: Mar 31, 2008 A quick glance at Oscar Blues’ homepage and you’ve got a harpe in your mouth and a guitar in your hands. Gonzo, music and beer, it sounds like a reasonable combination for midnight souls, so I joined in with a pale in my jar.
Of course the can had to be poured into a classic American beer glass, and since my edition from Great Divide danced around in the closet eager to be used and to have the hoppy blues, I decided to pull it out. Pzzzzt and gulp, gulp, gulp, no the beer hadn’t already be drunk but merely poured into the glass.
With memories of late President Reagan and an age where you didn’t mind ripping atmos to pieces, I observed the foam molding itself into an explosive mushroom cloud. After having stared at this beautiful piece of beer craftmanship for a bit, my nose went to work: The aroma of flowers, orange, citrus and grape made me iimmediatly salute the drinking gods in awe. This is the American dream. I thought, and started to quench my thirst. Down it went, and I immediatly hungered for more. First a nice malty sweetness and then a thin bitter fist of lust makes the name ’pale’ ale ridicolous. This beer is not pale but powerfully potent!
ogglethorp (776), Ohio, USA Aug 18, 2008 Can. Pours a coppery color with a decent sized tan colored head. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, caramel. Flavor is grapefruit, hint of pineapple, caramel, pine. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, finished bitter. This is one of the best exaples of the style. Terrific session beer! timsilvia32 (183), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Aug 17, 2008 Cloudy gold pour. Very floral, small amount of citrus nose. Tastes similarly. Some nice maltiness, pine. Medium bodied, a little stickiness. Good clean finish. One of the best pales I’ve had in quite a while, not that I drink them all that often. kassner (136), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2008 Took this beer in cans to the beach aat isle of Palms, SC.
What a great balanced IPA. Nice Hops and a good amount of malt. Finishes clean. OK on the beach but a little too much beer for an all day event. mmm///beer (521), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 15, 2008 12 oz. can poured into shaker- poured transparent when held to light, medium carbonation, very thin white head that laced some. Aroma of floral, hops, and earth. HIts the mouth with a low-medium body, malt is very nice, hops are very nice, notes of pine and sweetness on the backend, finish has some acidity- which is very nice. MrChopin (157), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2008 Fire-amber with a decent-sized, long-lasting white head. Nose is strong, sweet, and a little clean, with standards like caramel and grapefruit, but also with an earthy, "field"-like scent. Flavor has some great balance with citrus, caramel, bread, and a slight hint of pine/flowers. Somewhat bitter and full bodied, this is definitely a winner.
