CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Jul 22, 2009 Growler from the Tasty Weasel. Pretty nice. Lots of sweet malt on the nose. Sweet, malty flavor up front with a nice dry finish of hops. Not amazing, but solid. inkubus27 (237), Highland, Indiana, USA Jul 18, 2009 On tap in Lyons... Not much of a head, nice malty aroma, translucent but deep mahogany color. Taste is really smooth and malty... really nice... like it a lot but there was other stuff to drink. jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jul 12, 2009 (on tap at Falling Rock Tap House in Denver, CO). Very dark brown color. Small off white head. Sweet malt aroma. Sweet molasses flavor with light alcohol. Avg duration. Thin texture. Smooth finish. Soft carbonation. Spare lacing. ratman197 (3137), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jul 12, 2009 On tap at Falling Rock poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of carmel, molasses, dark fruit and pepper. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp with a smooth finish. Flavors of carmel, molasses and dark fruit with a smooth malty fruity finish. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Jun 28, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear burgundy with a beige head. The nose is of clean dark caramel; pleasant but pretty one-dimensional. Medium-bodied and softly effervescent with a mildly boozy finish. The flavor is very sweet: dark caramel, yeast and alcohol. I’m not really used to doppelbocks being this boozy. It’s interesting and effective (as it got me fairly buzzed). It’s a decent enough brew, but it’s lack of bittering hops to balance the sweetness of the malt make it a bit cloying. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Apr 6, 2009 Draft @ Lyons brewery. Toast brown/plum/dark cedar colored body. Semi-sweet malt-driven nose: cara, Munich, Vienna - toffee, toast, bread, etc. Medium to light body, some resinous and oily qualities over the middle and a hint of frothiness or fullness but it never finishes the job. Very light citrus notes, turning into more of some caramelized apples and maraschino cherries due to what I can only guess it an abundance of caramel malt. Okay but unexciting.
