on tap at falling rock during GABF. Pours a murky amber. Nose is whiskey and wood. Then hops come through. Flavor is too heavy whiskey and malt.

[1961-20090124] Tap. Not much aroma, some mild fruity malt and faint whiskey hints. Clear, dark brown amber body with no head. Whiskey vanilla malt continues in the flavour with some underlying double IPA characteristics and a long sweet heavy finish. Medium-full body. Nice, sweet and heavy.

Poured amber with a white head. Aroma of vanilla and bourbon. Very sweet start of vanilla and oak with a mellow bourbon finish. Some citrus hints but really lost it’s hops. Enjoyable.

Draft at Capone’s. Pours turbid coppery brownish with minimal off-white head. Nose is hoppy, citric, with heavy earthy caramel malty and oaky cognacy fruity notes. Tastes caramel malty, bready, with solid hops, citrus, pronounced fruity oaky spirits, and a hefty, complex palate. Very good, and very well balanced.

Crushed with Jakebra at BSAF. Lots of ops on the nose and definite bourbon sweetness coming through. Bourbon flavor doesn’t dominate, but it does subdue the hops. Neat experiment, but I’ll stick with regular Gordon any time.

Draught at The Tasty Weasel. Maintains the hops and most of the tasting notes for the standard version. There is definate oak in the nose, and aftertaste. Palate is a bit less coating, however the oak adds a dmension worth seeking out.

Draught at ’Cole’s Rare Beer Fest’, Buffalo, NY. Pours a hazy deep orange-amber with no head. Very nice aroma of light whiskey, wood, hops and sweet caramel malt. Sweet flavour of maple syrup, wood, whiskey vanilla and dry hops. Light bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Pretty good stuff, but better then the original version? I think not.

On tap at Cole’s Rare beer fest, Buffalo. See, this is why I am so hesitant on Barrel aged beers. Ten Fidy was done to perfection while this one was overwhelmed. Amber pour with good sized white head. Aroma is very nice - lots of vanilla and sweet malt. The taste though is way too sweet and way too bourbony and it completely overwhelms the very good base beer. Oh well, back to the Whiskey Barrel Ten Fidy for me...
