| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 3, 2009 Pours an orange/amber color with an extremely thin white head. Strong aroma of hops and pine. Flavor consists of pine, huge hops, and a hint of caramel, with a bitter aftertaste. This is one that I really wanted to try and I am very glad that I did. Awesome that this Impy IPA is in a can. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 30, 2009 12 oz can. An imperial IPA in a can! Wonders never cease. Aroma is of hops, sweet caramel malt. Beautiful looking beer with a nice thick head which whittles down to a medium sized head which lasts throughout. Nice copper hue. Nice even balance between the malt and the hops. Strong alcohol aftertaste. It’s slightly watery, but not overbearingly so. Nice, nice beer (in a can!!). Slipstream (785), USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 23, 2009 Picked up a growler of this. Mild, piney aroma, and a glowing amber pour. Gordon is a rich, dry, chewy, hoppy, dark ale, with loads of aromatic pine flavor. Very fresh and foresty, and solidly supported with a some malty sweetness. I’m very glad I got it fresh - good IPAs are usually best this way. Fratto (751), Arlington, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 18, 2009 Really nice and strangely complex. It’s like a little bit of everything and then a lot of alcohol. yemenmocha (424), Glendale, Arizona, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 18, 2009 Pours like a bottle of coca-cola, except with a root beer head. Deep brown color, not quite opaque.
Nose firs strikes me as brothy. Yes, like a soup. Maybe some brewed tea notes in here, when the tea bag came open and there’s loose tea floating around. Dark rum too, maybe that’s the "sweetness" on the nose.
Palate has big malt & hops but the other flavours keep you entertained - some birthday cake, root beer, marshmallowy vanilla wafer thing too.
Finish is more alcoholic than I’d like. Normally I hope that bite is more subdued, even for a beer of this strength. It interferes with drinkability for me, and turns this into a sipping 1 per sitting type of beer. msante79 (849), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Sep 18, 2009 12oz can from Old Chicago. Pours orangish amber with off-white head. Aroma is loaded with citrus, tropical fruit, tons of hops and caramel malts. Flavor is loaded with bitter hops, huge citrus and tropical fruit punch, with nice balance of caramel malt. Superbly balanced for such a hops bomb. Awesome mouthfeel. I can’t believe some of the low ratings for this beer. This is a real good double. I prefer this type of beer over all the sweet malt bombs that are raved about as great DIPA’s. daleharshman (203), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 13, 2009 12 ounce can. Pours a murkey orange-amber with off-white head that leaves nice lacing. Lovely fruity aroma of tangerines, grapefruit, and some tropical fruit (pineapple, mango). Flavor also has a lot of strong fruit flavors (grapefruit, peach, mango) along with a nicely balanced caramel maltiness. Neither overly sweet nor bitter. Medium body with a pleasant lingering bitterness. Still amazed that a beer this good could come from a can.
