Nose is a bit nutty with some herbal hop notes. Decent for a brown ale. Flavor is pretty nutty with a yeasty frutiy thing going on. Nice bitter punch that I did not expect. Medium body. Not bad for a brown, the most mundane style out there. GAManiac (1177), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Pours a dark brown with hints of red around the edges. The off-white head lasts for a long while and leaves decent lacing.
The aroma is pretty subdued with a strong sweet malt presence along with some nutty tones as well. I picked up very little hops in the nose at all.
The nuts actually come out a little stronger in the taste and balance the big sweet malt base. Again, there is little in the way of hops and the finish is slightly sweet with a fairly strong roasted character.
The mouthfeel is very creamy and smooth with good carbonation.
This is a very good brown and much more of an English brown in my book due to the seemingly small amount of hops. Either way, it’s very drinkable. Big thanks to Dave at the Brick Store for scoring this one. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 16, 2008 Draft @ the brewery. Lightly hazed brown body with a tan, patchy, thick head. Nose of rich toast, chocolate malt, cocoa powder... very bready and doughy, dusty even. Flavor is rich and pasty cocoa (dry), chocolate malt, toasted bread, nutmeg, light touch of almonds/amaretto, even some vanilla. Complex, well-made, satisfying and impressive for a brown ale. Smooth, silky body. beerheart (237), Erie, Colorado, USA

They need to grow up and decide to be porters or stouts. That said, this is a well-brewed example of the style. It was creamy, with toffee, brown sugar and a bit of hop to it. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jun 30, 2008 Draught @ Oskar Blues. Lots of character for a brown. Ruby brown color. Long lasting foam. Creamy texture and very mouth filling. Roast and toast character with hints of toffee, fruits and brown sugar, which leads into a dry, hoppy finish. Fairly nice nose as well. It’s a high quality, well made brown. shp555 (1688), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
