Had this on-tap at the brewery. Beer poured a clear, medium amber-brown color with an average-sized, creamy, off-white, mostly lasting head. The aroma was moderately malty with notes of roasted grain and caramel; moderately hoppy with notes of herbs and lemon; and lightly yeasty with a trace of cellar. The flavor was lightly sweet, heavily bitter, with an average-length, moderately bitter finish. The body was medium, the texture is watery, the carbonation is lively and the finish was lightly astringent, lightly alcoholic.

Draught, Oskar Blues. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, nuts), trace hops (herbs). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly saccharine. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. An acceptable but unremarkable brown ale. Sweetness in the finish is a bit too persistent and somewhat artificial.

Can. Simple design, yet beautiful. Pours a ruddy brown, medium carbonation. Aroma is lightly toasted, slight butter. Taste is full and nutty, with a slightly viscous texture. Slight roasted malt with bittering hops comes through the finish. Truely Old Chub’s little brother.

Medium chestnut colour. Rich malt nose has hazelnut accents and pale malt breadiness. Nutty, slightly toasty flavour. There’s a bit of seediness as well (pumpkin) but that could be from the slight oiliness that helps the sweet, thick body keep moving. Finishes with a bit of woody, off-dry maltiness. Thanks to Marty Jones for the sample!

12 oz can. Pours a murky dark tea color with a big creamy off white head that goes to a wispy film that laces the glass.

The aroma is earthy chocolate, a little dark fruit, and some peat.

The flavor is slightly smoky chocolate malts with a little grassy hoppiness. It’s medium to full bodied.

Overall, this would make a nice session beer. It’s pretty mild but tasty. It tastes like mild scottish ale (a mini version of the Old Chub).

Tap. Pours chocolate brown to brown sugar with a tan creamy head. Brown sugar caramel malt and chocolate aromas mix to pleasantly draw you in for a drink; hop nose. Spotty lacing. Sweet caramel malt flavor with a hop finish. Medium bodied and dry palate.
